The navy will allow him to take college classes for free while he is enlisted. He won't be able to while on active duty, but when he comes back home they will pay for him to go to college, or in many cases a professor will be paid to come onto the ship and teach several of the crew members at the same time while on board the ship in US waters. Either way it isn't a very big deal if he finishes that half credit now or not. He should have plenty of oportunities to do it when he returns.

Well-I got 12 credits in college simply by passing out of tests-they are called CLEP tests. There are many different kinds. I also took a physical exercise class just to get one credit. It was easy and half the time I didn't even go. Also, my college allowed me to pass some classes through essays using the COLBS model. I got 12 credits for this also.

He needs to go talk to the school and ask them. Some weekend seminars are worth half a credit.

just complete one course during the summer I session. independent study and even online courses may be available. some universities offer special clauses for those going into military service.
