I'm sorry for asking a question that has already been asked before. I'm looking for specifically what is different in the note structure. Do lyrics have certain trends between the two? Which one was first? etc...
thanks

Heavy metal has more guitar, a lot of reverb, and lyrics that are hard to understand...bands like Slayer and Savatage would be classified as heavy metal. Hard rock is just a little lighter in sound, and more melodic...like Aerosmith or Van Halen.

Hard rock is like a stone that cannot be broken, and heavy metal is a metal that is so heavy not even Jesus can lift it.

Heavy metal is a subsection of hard rock. Not all hard rock is heavy metal, but all heavy metal is hard rock. The Who is hard rock, but they are not heavy metal. Winger is heavy metal, and they are also hard rock.
