I already have my tank set up. I`m just not sure what fish to go with... I like cichlids and catfish. But I don`t know what will outgrow the fish tank and what fish will not get along with each other. Suggestions Please. Thanks!

This link gives you some ideas for different types of communities to set up in an aquarium. You can get information on how large the fish will grow and what types will do well together. Anything with a hardiness of "A" or "AA" will be the easiest for a beginner to keep: http://www.elmersaquarium.com/h701elmers_freshwater_handbook.htm

The species get larger and more aggressive the higher the community number. Some of the more peaceful cichlids are found as low as Community 5. There are several catfish that would do well in the size tank you've got (corydoras, banjo, upside down catfish, smaller pleco species), just stay away from monsters, or those requiring a special environment (iridescents, Colombians, SA Red tailed catfish, common plecostomous).

Some additional info for you:

I really enjoyed the community setup I had in my 33 gal a couple years ago consisting of mollies, platys, a few corydoras catfish, a pleco, and 2 pink kissing gouramis. All seemed to get a long quite well...As for cichlids a bigger tank is usually required as they can get quite big(more than 50gal) and also compatibility between them can be an issue as they are a semi agressive species. Nevertheless there colors can be superb... Hope that helps

It really depends what you like. Do you like planted aquariums? ones with sand or ones with gravel. Know that cichlids are more aggressive and will rip up any plant and catfish are less aggressive and can survive with plants. Its up to you honostly
