I keep hearing this phrase, and i wonder, what does it mean? Has it become a synonym for "support my agenda"? Bush says it means passing the legislation he wants, Nancy says it's supporting her interpretation of the mandate the people gave her. Is it just more manipulation at the expense of our soldiers?

It is a time=sensitive question. Right now, support the troops would be to bring them home safely now, and with respect. Do not let ourselves get mired down in a Vietnam like situation, where neighboring countries entered the battle, and made it clear outside presence wasn't wanted. (as happened recently when the Iranians seized the British sailors)
America in Vietnam went on with the attitude we always win our wars, and our troops will for us.
There is no freedom issue here. There is no extermination or genocide in Iraq. America should call their troops home, and support their efforts in that they completed their mission and supported their leader. Making our own children, which is the age of some of these soldiers, social workers, supervisors, killers, etc. all in the same city at the discretion of one military leader, depending on their group isn't a good way to support our own.
Let the Peace Corps in, and settle the Iraq country according to their resources and needs. They work within the boundaries of their ethnic beliefs, and strengthen
communities.
In times where it is the freedom of a country, as in WWII in Germany, to stop the extinction of a race, and to stop the genocide from spreading to other countries, American troops went to war (my dad said the war lasted too long in some parts of the world anyway) Call the troops home, as soon as victory is clearly established. This was months ago.
And let everyone move on, especially our own youth and their lives. We should repect their lives, their health, their families.

It is just a slogan to make people feel nice. Really who doesn't"support the troops"?I disagree with the reasons we are in Iraq,it doesn't mean I want soldiers to get spit on.I'm surely not going to hate someone doing their job. The real question should be do you think our govt. gives a crap about anything else besides their own wallet and agendas. My brother is a "troop",I support him,but not the war.

I support the troops, because I am paying taxes throught he nose! However, I do not support the Bush war ( or rather, the "nation building" that Pinnochio once said that we were not going to get into, but now we have been and continue to do for years now). Instead, let us drain the next swamps (Iran, then Syria) and drops lots of "daisy cutters" on them. Kill enemies, break their things, and move on. Only in this way will we be feared, respected, and accomplish our goal in the "war on terror".

Umm. To use some of the US's nearly $3 trillion a year budget and pay them a good wage? To insure they are the best trained and best equipped? To make sure their families are well cared for while they are overseas? To guarantee post service health care? Oh, I'm sorry. What's the profit in all that? Hey, maybe they mean support like in a prop. That's it. A prop for political bull.

Supporting our troops - is to say prayers for them to return home safely, making sure that they have all they need to get the job done, emotional support for the families of the troops, and the list goes on.

The political agenda of supporting the troops is far from the truth. It's a dam disgrace to be in a war, and to hear political bickering about your welfare well deployed to do a job that you volunteered to do for your country. And to see yourself used as a political pawn for politicians.

Just define "support the troops".
Politicians are politicians and will inject their own definitions to support their various agendas.
Those troops are doing "OUR WORK" or should I say they are following the orders they are given by our elected and/or appointed leaders. It is dangerous and often thankless, hard work, but they do it even when they don't agree with or like their orders. They deserve all the support , help, and thanks they can get.
Please support them and SEE THE POLITICIANS FOR WHAT THEY ARE. It helps keep things in perspective.

no. It means you adopt a squad or soldier and put together a care package for them. Keep sending letters. They love that. Remind them that we love them. Thank them for fighting for what is right. And above all, respect them for their incredible devotion to our great nation.
