The Allies won technically but Japan and Germany have both benefited far beyond anything that they were before the war. Japan could never have become as powerful a nation as they are now and Germany is economically the strongest country in Europe.
Therefore, I would have to say that the Axis won and the Allies lost. Great Question!

Truly an interesting question. Technically the allies won the war. Looking at defeated nations now though you would think that even though beaten militarily, Japan and Germany have won considering their current economic status.

To me, the Japanese won the war. Look at their economy and then look at the economy of the rest of the world who purportedly won the war!

The Allies: Britain, France, USA, etc. You can tell because we are not Nazi's and Samurais don't rule. Oh, but, considering our present government, maybe we are indeed Nazi's.

The economic boom of Germany and Japan does not redeem the humiliation and casualities those countries and their people earned through their mass rape of humanity.
