Relocating to Chicago- looking for suburb with GREAT schools, neighborhood feel, professional neighbors, commuting to O'Hare and downtown (E. Wacker). We are originally form New England, so we tend to like older neighborhoods rather than newer subdivions, but would do newer construction for the right schools and location for our commute.

Hinsdale, Clarenden Hills, Schaumburg, and Naperville are nice areas with good schools. Park Ridge is a nice suburb close to O'Hare with decent schools but in Cook County. I would think about trying to stay out of Cook County for tax reasons. Anything close to O'Hare and downtown with good schools will be pricey, and there is really no vacant land for new construction. You would have to do a tear down or find a private builder with a spec home. Good luck with the move.

Glenview is about 20-30 minutes from the O'Hare area and you can take Metra (North Glenview, Glenview, and Golf) downtown. You might want to consider Arlington Heights/Palatine.
The key is what is your budget? The Chicago area is very expensive.
One thing to remember while Cook County's sales tax is high; its property tax is low. Lake County has high sales tax but low property tax.

You'll want to look to the North and West of the city proper to find good schools and neighborhoods. Try to stay out of cook county if possible.
