You could buy a tester for GFCI functions at a supply house or on Grainger.com or just push the button on the breaker and check to see if the outlets turned off. The tester is expensive but will tell you if the GFCI is too touchy or not sensitive enough. If I remember right, should pop at around .4 volt to ground. Obviously, I don't have the tester. It's cheaper to just change the outlet or breaker if in doubt.

Lowe's (among others) sells a tester that is a GFI plug with led indicators. You can use it on any GFI or other socket to test for faults like incorrectly wired and such. Costs about 4-5 bucks. I also have the "pen" that tests any socket or device to see if it is hot, The pen like tool lights and buzzes. Safety always. And remember, a;ways keep one hand in your pocket! Old timers tip.

As most electricians I have a wigginton voltage tester. I go from the hot lead to the ground hole and that will usually will trip the GFI. About the same as pushing the test button. good luck

push the "test" Red button, it should pop. then reset the switch.
They also sell a tester at the hardware store for about $8 that you can test every outlet in your house for correct wiring. It looks like a plug with three lights on it.
