Any advice on how to remove them??? I have tried vice grips to no avail. They thread into the tranny housing(aluminum).

i own a repair shop, and i have repaired them that have been done like this, apply a small amount of heat to it from a propane torch or something, you don't need too much heat just a little, and then squirt it with wd-40 while its hot and when it cools down if you have a small pipe wrench it will bring it out,but it has to be one of the smaller ones and a good pair of vice grips may bring it out too once you get the heat on it,those are hard to deal with, but that's the one bolt on those that always seems to break off, none of the others gives any problems,at least not for me,but try that ,it will work ,it might make you mad a few times, but it will get it out, good luck hope this helps.

from experience the best and only way you should remove them is by using a stripped bolt remover or if you can drill the center of them use a stripped screw /bolt remover. the bolt remover goes over the outside of the bolt so it will only work if there is enough exposed. the screw /bolt remover works on the inside so you have to drill a hole and stick it inside without damaging the bolt threads. ( always use a center punch before drilling) before you do anything i would use PB Blaster ( comes in a spray can) which loosens it up a bit. tap on it while spraying to help penetration. if for some reason you don't want to or cant use the stripped bolt remover just make sure to tighten the vice grips as tight as they will go and check which way you are turning the bolt out. (counter- clock wise). good luck. contact me at hunter1stshot@yahoo.com if i can help more.

I would guess the bolts are threaded into the bell housing that is attached to the engine and the tranny is attached to it. You should get a shop manual that shows you how to remove the tranny and the bell housing so you can remove the bolts. I don't think it possible to remove them without doing this.

Had the same thing happen to me with a muffler... Ended up spot welding another bolt on top, hosing the thing down with WD40 and unscrewing the whole welded assembly using the head on the new bolt...
