Hi C, fortunately, yeast infections are relatively easy to cure. You may want to try some home remedies for curing this infection, in consultation with your doctor, because home remedies generally have a longer lasting effect than over the counter medication. Here are some popular time-tested remedies for fighting yeast infections:

Yoghurt

The good bacteria in yogurt help fight yeast infections effectively. The yoghurt also has an extremely soothing effect on the affected area. Be sure to use plain, unsweetened yoghurt, because sugar feeds the yeast. You can even use home-made yoghurt. Dip a tampon into the plain yoghurt and insert it into your vagina or simply rub some yoghurt on the outside. This should be done twice or thrice a day, depending on the severity of the infection, until the infection gets cured.

Apple-cider vinegar

Apple-cider vinegar can also be used both internally and externally. However, you will have to dilute it if you wish to make a topical application. The best way to do this is to add about a cup of apple-cider vinegar into your bathwater and take a nice hot bath. This will soothe the itching and help cure the infection.

Garlic

Garlic is a very effective home remedy against yeast infections. The garlic cures the infection and also provides relief from the itching and burning. Insert a clean clove of garlic into the vagina every couple of hours or as needed. There are also some garlic tablets that are available in the Markey, which may also be used.

Oil of Oregano

Oil of the oregano herb, when taken internally, is very potent against yeast. Choose an oil with a high carvacrol content and drink a teaspoon daily or as per the directions on the label.

you can do the yogurt thing but if i were you just buy the over the counter anti-fungal cream like monistat 7 or even a generic brand will suffice..if this isnt something you have had before i suggest you see your physician asap it could be a bacterial infection and if it is a bacterial infection he/she may prescribe flagyl or metrogel depending on what they think is best for you. If it is a yeast infection they wont give you an antibiotic for that because yeast is a fungus not a bacterial infection and they can give you diflucan which is a single dose pill but in my opinion you are better off using the 7 day or even the 3 day cream because you get relief from the itching if any outside of the vagina..keep in mind when you take the diflucan it doesnt work instantly takes a day or 2 to get into your system..see your doctor or nurse practioner ..good luck hun

A very effective way to treat vaginal yeast infections without resorting to medications is to sit in a sitz bath or tub with small amount of water and vinegar 10:1 or so proportion. I would also encourage you to avoid staying in a wet bathing suit for long and to eat yogurt with active enzymes on a regular basis to prevent further yeast infections. If this is the first time you are having the symptoms of yeast and the above doesn't work, you should probably have a doctor verify its cause. It could be a bacterial infection like bacterial vaginosis that is only treatable with antibiotics.

Yeast infections are more serious than most people realize, and affect many more functions of the body than people realize.

There's the edible stuff - yogurt (with active cultures), cranberry juice, etc. The hygiene stuff - take a warm bath for 30 minutes in apple cider vinegar, wear loose clothing and no panties to bed, and give it some time. If the natural stuff really DOESN'T work, I'd recommend seeing a doctor. You could try something called (of all things!) Metrogel. It works like a dream!
