As a human, I cannot choose what another person does with their body, but unfortunatley most prostitutes do not in any way choose to become what they are. They didn't say as children, "Mommy, when I grow up I want to sell my body to sex-craving men!" But rather, in most cases, a series of very terrible events in their lifetime will lead to this lifestyle. We as a society should try to provide them with jobs or another choice because being a prostitute is not only unhealthy for your body but very damaging to the human spirit. By making it okay in America, where most girls and boys arent forced into prostitution by a pimp(which somtimes they are), other countries would be likely to follow in it's footsteps, countries where it is a thriving business to sell a 6 year old virgin for a lot of money. In Thailand, for example, every night thousands of innocent girls and boys who were sold or stolen into prostitution are raped and imprisoned in brothels. You should look into what actually happens, because it's hard to fathom what they go through. Also, some do it by choice because of a past rape or shameful experience, and in that case we need to show them that the past can be forgiven and they dont need to live this lifestyle. So no, I dont think it should be legal, and if cheating on a spouse could be illegal, which I'm sure would never happen, I'd be all for it i guess

If you're an adult, I think it's dangerous and wrong, but so is smoking. The choice is up to the person. I feel the need to repeat that it is really dangerous. If it was legal, they could keep a record of who is with who, or at least have some guards outside the door or something. There must be more protection.
The danger is the only problem with prostitution, isn't it? The country doesn't really give a damn about them having sex for money. That's what I like about this country-almost nothing is taboo anymore. Society used to be so stiff.
But a child? No way. Most of them have been forced into prostitution anyway. A kid as a prostitute is a horrible, sick thought. Imagine how the kid will feel when they grow up and realize what they have been doing. At an age of 8, or even 6, they shouldn't even KNOW about that kind of thing, let alone experience it first hand...That is just disturbing.
Criminals shouldn't be allowed to buy prositutes. The identity of the person should be fully looked into.

Prostitution is legal in the state of Nevada. It is a business that was honored in ancient times, but since Christianity, has been disgraced. Making anything illegal doesn't stop it, it only drives up the price. So far as using your own body for whatever purpose, it is a high risk profession with many diseases, no union protections, and always the probability of being beaten and robbed. On the plus side, the money is good, and if working in a regular business establishment, a lot of bad customers are weeded out. Men will always pay for sex in one form or another. Some men will pay rent and provide for other things, sometimes several will share. Of course, there is always the term of
'marriage' which essentially covers the same circumstances. If this is your career choice, get the top fee, and have a savings program, as it isn't covered by Soc.Sec. Best wishes

Prostitution is legal in Nevada by local option - a county can vote to have it legal, or not - and that makes sense to me for lots of things. Why not let the people who will be living with it decide?
Prostitution is legal and closely regulated in many countries. It seems to work for them. If anything, legalizing it makes it harder for the women involved to be mistreated by pimps, customers and law officers. It lessens the tie between prostitution and other illegal but violent behavior.
As with anything else, if it is legal and you think it is immoral or undesirable, just stay away from it.

Yes. I believe it is legal in a few places. I saw a documentary (on HBO I think). It was like a regular business. The women were well paid and seemed very happy. They and the people who managed and owned the place were like one big happy family. That's how it should be.
Walking the streets, trying to dodge cops and creeps, getting abused in every way - that has got to suck beyond belief.

the fact that prostitution is illegal, yet fornication and adultry is legal amazes me.
sure, you can have sex with 500 people. you can cheat on your spouse day in and day out. but the day u exchange sexual favors for money, then its a crime.
don't get me wrong, i do not condone any of the three. but fair is fair. i'm guessing the government cares more about tax evasion (they hate when a person gets money and they don't get a cut), than the actual immoral process...

Well it is going to happen anyway. Better it were legal and made safer....and taxed. Still YICK!!! I would rather steal than have sex with an unappealing person and I would rather do without than pay a prostitute.

Exactly. People are free to do what they want with their bodies. Some women can't simply find a job anywhere else, or maybe they get paid more. I think its wrong but if a lot of woman depend on that as their daily income pay, they need those jobs...a dirty job...yet it's still a job that they get paid for...

They walk the streets now and come up to the cars. I cannot imagine how much worse this could get. They would be running down the street after the men.
