You need to get into a tutoring program so you can get caught up on the lessons. You may also need to take summer school.

You're not an idiot - you just came here and the teaching styles are probably different and the lessons are on different topics. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

I hear you hon. The Board of Education was so behind .. now all of a sudden they are teaching stuff that you learn in high school in other countries over in Middle School here.. It is stressful and unfair. And kids are suffering.. I am sure your parents will understand if you spoke to them. Make an appointment with your guidance counselor and speak to them. You will catch up. Take time out to go over what they teach in class and if you dont understand it, go to your teacher and tell them.

You could talk to your school counseler. Explain to her what youve learned in Jamaica and that you are having some problems adjusting to the new ciriculum. The counseler will be able to help you adjust to your new school.
Its hard sometimes moving to new schools and finding that theyve already covered material that you havent learned yet. Its not that youre stupid or slow. Your counseler in school will know this, and can help you. That is what they are there for. They can even help you by speaking with your parents as well.

Have you tried something like after school or online tutoring? ( http://www.tutoringforschool.com ). Not everyone learns at the same pace, and that's especially try for kids who aren't born in the US. be honest with your parents and tell them that its impossible for you to learn at the same pace as other kids when you don't have a great understanding of the material

Ask your teachers for help, and stay after school to get help from teachers. If you stay after school, your parents will know that you are trying hard.
