We want to name our son Daren Devin. Devin is my fathers first name and he does not have a middle name. We absolutely LOVE the name Daren and don't want to change it. Do you think that having a first and middle name with the same letter sounds odd?

And what do you think of the name Olive? I had a friend named Olive in highschool and always liked that name, but after seeing Little Miss Sunshine I am definately inlove with it and plan to name our next baby (if its a girl) Olive Kay (grandmothers middle name).

What do you think?

I don't personally like the flow of Daren Devin. One thing you might consider is having two middle names. Some people might argue against that but I think for all intense purposes it would not hurt, and it could allow you to keep both names for your boy. Something with one syllable just to separate the two similar sounding names, such as:

Daren James Devin
Daren Lee Devin
Daren Paul Devin
Daren Scott Devin
Daren Luke Devin

Even two syllable additions might work without being overwhelming:

Daren Matthew Devin
Daren Kyle Devin
Daren Michael Devin

As for Olive, it's unusual but it's also what I would say is a very "distinct" and memorable name. Despite a lot of people warn, I do not believe a name makes a person. I think a person makes the name. So I would not say "don't name your child this" unless it's some whacked spelling or a completely made-up name. I think Olive has great potential, and would be very suitable for a child AND a grown up.

Good luck!

I think having first and middle name beginning with the same letter is fine as long as they sound good together. Daren Devin sounds good.

Olive is also a nice name as it is also the name of my grandmother.

I like the alliteration name you chose... I would be careful with a girls name alliteration sounds stripperish...but Daren Devin ....the artist, musician... poet.... Basketball player... that name could be anything...

I love Olive.....very British sounding. Olive Kay, not crazy about Grandma's Name but appreciate the sentiment....

You must love your child's name....believe me... When you here people butcher it, give it new nicknames....or whine it when your toddler is acting up it helps to start with a name you love!

Best Luck.

Daren Devin? Sounds like Dare Devil to me, and when he is in school some kids might find it a good reason to pick on him.

Olive makes me hungry. Reminds me of pizza with olives, or a salad with olive oil.

If you like the names go ahead, but keep this in mind.

I don't think there is anythihg wrong with having the same first & middle initials. I actually know somebody with the initials DDS. I also don't have anything against the name Olive & love the idea of using a family name. My family does all of the time. my nephew is Andrew (a middle name for several members of my family) James (my dad/his grandpa's name).

-- Season Names. I personally do not like them because there are much better names out there. -- Multiple Middle names. I do like them b/c I know I can not come up with a good combo. -- Alliteration. It is just a coincidence that all my names start with "A". So I guess I like it. -- Type. I love unique names. I hate popular names!!! -- Your Favorites. -- Benjamin Noah. It doesn't sound right to be. Benjamin Riley sounds better. -- Landon Aaden. I really dislike both names. Luke Alexander is better IMHO. -- Jasmine Olivia. It sounds pretty but is kinda common. -- Isabella Grace. Way too common for my liking.

I think it is fine to use the same letter for the start of each name, my little niece is Emily Eve....which sounds gorgeous. Go for it, if you love it that is the most important thing.

And as for Olive...that is super Cute.

Good choices!!

I dont think its weird at all, although my name is Jessica Jeanne so maybe i'm a little biased on the subject. I acully think its easier to remember plus that names really cute! I think you should keep it.

And Olive is a really pretty name, I'm more of a fan of Olivia but i still think Olive is really pretty. =)

I just really don't like the name Olive.

I think it's because my cousin told me I looked like the lady who played Olive Oyl in the popeye movie and it made me cry in sixth grade. i was tall, skinny, and awkward back then and I associate the name Olive with that character.
