i own a repair shop and you cant get that sound from a 318 at all, that's the sound of a big block mopar, and nothing in the world sounds like that but a big block,if you want the sound get, at least a 440 and build it or go for the hemi engine, but no 318 small block will sound that good, you can get a good sound from it,but not that sound, good luck hope this helps.

You will not get that deep a sound from a 318 but that doesn't mean that you can't make it sound really good and increase it's performance for a little more than a grand doing it yourself.First to get a nice rumbly sound replace the cam with a nice low lift dual profile cam.that means the lift and duration are both different on the exhaust and intake side a low lift will allow you to change the cam without having to worry about expensive performance upgrades like high compression piston's and stall converters.Second pickup a double roller timing chain from your local parts supplier ask for a timing chain from a 1985 dodge diplomat 5.2 police they came factory with one.Three purchase an edelbrock 750 carb and manifold with the strip kit some mechanics will argue the carb is to big but there wrong a factory 4 bbl 318 with thermoqaud was 850 cfm.Four purchase a set of headers and a pair of flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers and a universal dual exhaust kit from summit or jeg's.When done you should have a faster car that starts right now and gets better fuel mileage when not being jumped on.Also you will have a distincly mopar sounding car with a nice mettalic pitch to it.Please remember building a high performance car is not the same as auto repair it takes far more understanding of how parts work together and sometimes years of experience and expense to find the right combo.Over twenty years of mopar drag racing experience big and small block street racing.

Your asking to get big block sound out of a small block? You can make it sound close to that but it will never be like that with the 318. That was a 429 Hemi dual carbs. You will want to pull the whole exhaust system off the car completely and just scrap it. get yourself some headers, channel some dual exhaust with and X or H pipe and put on some high flow magnaflow mufflers or straight cherry bombs. It should sound close to it but it will never sound like a big block. That hemi also has a purple shaft in it, (thats where you get the loop sound) your stock 318 will not make that sound. Some engine modifications will need to be made. Pull the old cam out, put in a purple shaft, put on a dual 4 intake or a tri power (Tripower is a perfect set up for the 318) rebuild the top end but opening the exhaust ports and intake ports and increase the valves. it should sound really nice after that is done.

Nothing sounds like a Hemi but another Hemi. However, if you modify your engine with a long duration cam install some headers with 21/2 inch exhaust pipes and some 2-3 chamber Flowmaster mufflers you can get it to sound pretty healthy. But it will never sound like a Hemi!!

i'm not a pro engine builder but have been around the block a time or two in my day and the best way i can describe this to you is there are two types of sounds a high performance engine makes....rumpety rump or furple furple....you will never get a small block i.e. 318 to sound like a big block...but if you build it right (compression, cam, heads, intake, carb) you can make a 318 run darn good....but i hate to tell ya the best it will sound is that compared to a built up small block chevy

No you can't. But with a good set of tuned headers, a free flowing dual plane intake, a mid sized afb carb, and a 2 1/2 inch free flowing exhaust, you can get a sound that is just as sweet.

Neither of those vehicles are horsepower monsters however the Plymouth has the aptitude to be nicely worth further and further as time is going by. The Mustang is a sturdy motor vehicle too, however the Plymouth is a fantastically famous collector motor vehicle and could be nicely worth extra interior the long-term.
