Since folk music kinda tells you a story about something, so does this song. I wanna know your opinions if it's folky rap or just plain hip-hop or rap. If it's folky, It's gotta be intergenre then.

Let me know.

GCH is alternative indie rap

and it def. has some folk mixed in it

I love thier music!

Rather than using the conventional tools of hip hop, they use live instruments

Alternative Rap refers to hip-hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, funk, bass, hardcore, and party rap.

Instead, they blur genres, drawing equally from funk and pop/rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae, and even folk.

most alternative rap groups are embraced primarily by alternative rock fans, not hip-hop fans

Basically, Gym Class Heroes doesn't fit in a single genre. They have rock songs, pop songs, rap songs, and mixtures of the three. They have a very diverse sound. By the way, "telling a story about something" is not limited to folk. There are songs in all genres whose lyrics seem to tell a story.

It's kind of a weird genre for this song, but I like it. You have Patrick Stump(h) from Fall Out Boy, and a rap band. And a song that tells a story. I wouldn't necessarily call it "folk rap". It's kind of a pop-rap-weird thingy. Haha. But either way, I like it! :-)

the chorus-

"take a look at my girlfriend.she's the only one i got"

I dunno, i saw those guys on a late nite show a bit ago, and they totally sucked. In fact, i wouldn't be surprised if they're the prime reason behind the general music buying public to finally say "Wait, ok...enough is enough", but then again...people are sheep, so........
