if he/she asked me for my opinion, then i would tell them the truth but in less harsh words.instead of ugly, i'd say that the jacket looks "alright" because everyone has their different tastes in clothing styles, so something that i think is ugly might look great in someone else's eyes.otherwise, it would be very rude if i blatantly told someone what i thought about their jacket out of the blue, if they didn't ask for my opinion.

Probably not, unless someone like my family members asked me for a true opinion. On second thought, I would also tell the truth, if a friend asked me to give a true opinion because with the "Golden Rule", if asked for a true opinion from a family member or a friend, I would truly want it.

Darn right I would. Just ask my mother in law. She and I went shopping one day....she tried on an outfit and I looked at her and said "That is the UGLIEST pair of shoes I have ever seen in my life. If you buy those, you'll get laughed at." She didn't buy them :D She did the same thing to me another time on a shopping trip though. I'd rather be brutally honest than let people I'm in public with be laughed at.

If it was one of my close friends, I would. Especially if they were headed somewhere where a hideous jacket would not work. I try not to tell normal coworkers/peers/teachers/etc that I think their clothes are ugly.

NO, it's real! it's honest. Now you can tell someone something does not look right with out being nasty with it, And if you really care for someone you should want to tell them the truth.

If a friend asked, "How does this look?" I'd probably respond with a "I think you could find something that looks better on you." However, if they didn't ask for my opinion or I didn't know them well, I wouldn't say anything!

No, did they ask. I might if it was a dear friend and they were trying it on to purchase and it truly looked awful. They would do the same for me. It would have to be that type of friend though.

I would definitely tell them......but then I would remind them that it's only MY opinion.
