It can be a hard subject, but it is very rewarding. I have made a career of chemistry as it relates to soil science, farm crops, fertilizers, gardening and lawn care, and now working with production of specialty gasses for computer chip manufacture. Because of the rewards to you as you learn the concepts and apply what you learn, do not shy away from it. In my opinion, better to try, learn something, and get a C grade than to be afraid of it. I suggest learning the basics very well. Then as you go on to organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and beyond, you will be able to apply the basics. Chemistry is very systematic. There is much logic to it. You do need to know some math, but the math you need to know is generally useful for other areas of science, engineering, and even economics. Challenge yourself, learn, and have fun. One of your other answerers above said something very important: It is essential to have a good teacher and readable textbook. A good teacher will make chemistry come alive for you. If you are looking for a career, investigate the field of nanochemistry. Extremely interesting and potentially very useful in the near future.

Chemistry is the study of what makes up matter (stuff) and how it interacts in the world we live in. If you are curious about how and why things act the way they do, then you will like chemistry. It is only hard if you find it uninteresting.

Math is important because, our world is not satisfied in simply knowing how things happen. People want to know how much. If you bake a cake, how many eggs, how much flour, how long in the oven, etc. The same questions arise in chemistry. Baking a cake is, after all, chemistry.

Organic chemistry was a blast, as was analytical chem - yes, there's a math part, but the formulae are not that complicated - you are adding up atoms and molecules, and you will measure things like a mole - so it's more like learning a new language.

You can also learn how to make alcohol you can burn on your hand (50% isopropyl & water - but you buy 70% isopropyl and dilute it) - and 193 proof booze!!!

Chemistry is one of the those classes where it is very important to have a GOOD teacher.
The class is generally not hard it you are willing to commit to it and practice. Chemistry builds on it self and if you understand general principles you can do very well.

i took chemistry my junior year and it was actually a lot easier than physics. u learn a lot about the periodical table and have to remember a few of them. and u do equations to find whats in certain elements.. but its not totally easy but if u remember your equations u'll be fine

general chem is only hard if you REALLY want to know the concepts. otherwise, memorize formulas. organic chem is easy but a lot of people say its hard. I like it better cuz the concepts are clear.

It isn't hard as long as you make sure you understand and ask questions when in doubt and have the passion for it
