from one military wife to another....i FEEL YA!
my hubby is in Afg. right now...i am pregnant i don't know if he will make it home in time so i want to keep this baby IN me as long as possible...opposite of what your dealing w/but i get the stress!
seriously, if your due date is SO close, then your baby is TERM and your doc SHOULD allow you the option of induction, besides if you went into labor NOW your doc wouldn't stop it...so induction is not 'unsafe' at this point so don't worry about 'paranoid' posters that have NO idea what it's like to be a military wife anyway! a yr and a half is a LONG time to wait for hubby to see baby, and not getting to share in the birth just compounds the loneliness of deployments! **civilians just don't GET IT :p **
I've been through 2 inductions (for medical reasons), but i would think that your hubby seeing the birth of his daughter TRUMPS everything else at this point, esp. since you know your baby is at term, and her lungs are fine etc.
call your doc, and tell him/her you want induced. explain WHY, and don't take no for an answer!
*course that will depend if you are seeing military doc at military hospital or clinic, or civilian doc..military docs are anal, but a civilian doc might understand your reasons.*

There are all sorts of homeopathic ways to try and start labor but if your body isn't ready then it won't work and they all taste quite nasty from what I've heard. If you really want to go into labor so your husband can be there, I would call your OB and ask about having your membranes swept and explain your situation. Sometimes this can work. You also might ask for an induction but that could lead to a long, hard labor that could end in a c-section which will make your recovery time much longer. Sex works for some but in all reality the best answer is just to let nature run it's course to make it easier on you and the baby. Call the doctor first thing in the morning and explain and see what they say..........best of luck!

I agree with "Darkness is Preggers." You have every right to demand an induction. You NEVER need to listen to the Dr. It's their job to give their advice (that's why we pay them the big bucks!) and for them to stand firmly by their opinion/advice, but it is your job to agree or disagree with the Dr.
The law is called the "Informed Consent Law" and it basically states that you have to be told the risks and benefits to anything that's going on and that if you're not objecting, then you're agreeing with the Dr. If you do disagree, then they make you sign a paper saying that is what you'd like (so they can't get sued for mal-practice). It's most commonly seen when someone signs them self out of the hospital before the Dr. OK's it... but it's the same thing. ...I'm rambling; you get it...
Walk in tomorrow and demand an induction if that is absolutely 100% what you'd like.

I have heard that if your water hasn't broken, you can have intercourse and that will help you go into labor. I am only 35 weeks pregnant and don't have any children, but this is what i have heard. It's worth a try as long as you are healthy and everything has been fine throughout your pregnancy.

I would have sex, that is what put me into labour with my son.You need to have an orgasm.I also heard if yor husband or you play with your nipples apparently it causes the same kind of reaction as pitocin.Well good luck and I hope you go into labour while reading all of the responses.

While I can empathize with you about the possibility of your husband missing the birth...I think you both would be happiest if you and the baby were safe!!! That is seems more important than actually being their. If the big day should come and go and hubby has to leave you should try to capture it all on film either photos or video so that he can still be apart of that special day!!! But here is the info you asked for!!!
Unless it is medically necessary to have a child early induction is not the safest route to go. Average first pregnancies are 41 weeks 1 day & pregnancies with prior births average 40 weeks 3 days… It is optimal to be patient and wait until your body & baby are ready. Intervention usually leads to more intervening, and having an induction can put you at a higher risk of having a cesarean section, something that despite being the most common surgery in the U.S. carries many, many risks.
Some safe ways to try to bring on labor at home are:
Walking. And especially up & down stairs sideways. This helps the baby navigate the pelvic bones and allows the baby to put pressure on your cervix aiding in dilation.
Squatting is also good, both before labor & during. Before labor you can do squats to strengthen your legs for long periods of squatting during labor as well as stretching the joints & muscles associated with squatting. It also helps the baby put pressure on the cervix. And during labor it can open your pelvis up to 33% more, allowing more room for the baby to squeeze out!
I have heard good things about red raspberry tea (drink it chilled, hot it is gross!) It is said to strengthen your uterus, thus causing your contractions to be more efficient.
Sex or more specifically semen and orgasm are said to help you to release more of the natural labor-inducing hormone Oxytocin. And Sperm/semen contain prostaglandins another substance that is synthetically produced and used to aid in dilation!
Nipple stimulation is also another way to get your body to produce Oxytocin, as well as help to toughen up your nipples for the task of breast feeding that lay ahead!
I hope this was helpful, a great book about labor & birth is:
The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer
I recommend it to all expectant parents!
CASTOR OIL IS A LAXATIVE AND HAS NEVER BEEN PROVEN TO BE SAFE OR EFFECTIVE AT INDUCING LABOR. IT CAN PASS THE PLACENTA CAUSING THE BABY TO PASS MECONIUM (POOP) INSIDE PUTTING HIM/HER AT A HIGHER RISK OF INFECTION AND OTHER SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS!

I'd call and plead with the doctor. Tell them you'll be in better shape for labor (emotionally) if your husband could be there with you! If your doctor isn't up for inducing, ask them to strip your membranes - it hurts, but it does kick labor in. Sex helps! I hope baby comes before Monday!
