Mine currently is the Dixie Chicks "Not Ready to Make Nice". I was thinking of making a political song CD for my hubby. Some others are down by U2, Born in the USA.......would like some great ideas.

Thanks

For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield
the best politically charged song...

There’s somethin’ happenen’ here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a gun over there
A tellin’ me I gotta beware

Chorus
I think it’s time we stop children
What’s that sound everybody look
What’s going down.

There are battle lines being drawn
And nobody right everybody’s wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

It’s time we stop hey what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down.

What a field day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singin’ songs and carrying signs
Just to say hooray for our side
Refrain

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life will creep
It starts when you’re always afraid
Step out of line
The man comes and take you away

Buffalo Springfield, "For What It's Worth"

CSNY, "Ohio"

Heaven 17, "Fascist Groove Thing"

John Mellenkamp, "Scarecrow"

Digable Planets, "Appointment at the Fat Clinic"

NIN, "Head Like a Hole"

Pearl Jam, "Worldwide Suicide"

---
And yeah, the Chicks song is truly a political song, and a good one.

How about this one? Though you've probably never heard it. It's called "My Hero, Mister President" by Paula Cole. Here are the lyrics.

Yea, Yea
Yea, Yea, Yea

Well hello there, blue blooded boy
Your bed is lined with dollars
I bet you're cumming oil

I love the way you take control and push the world around
United Nations- Ha,ha
No one can keep you down

Daddy's little helper, silver foot in your mouth
Policeman of the world gonna start another war
Connecticut yankee in a cowboy hat
You're my hero, Mr. president

Remember the elections for the presidency
No matter that Gore won the majority
Your cousin married Fox TV, he declared you were the one
Your brother came through with his promise he'd get Florida

Daddy's little helper, silver foot in your mouth
Policeman of the world gonna start another war
Connecticut yankee in a cowboy hat
You're my hero, Mr. president

Now what you gonna do about our economy
You spend three trillion dollars in a heartbeat
Now what about us folks who live hand to mouth
We can't afford our lives, and we're working three jobs

Daddy's little helper, silver foot in your mouth
Policeman of the world gonna start another war
Connecticut yankee in a cowboy hat
You're my hero, Mr. president

Now Don't you want your grand children to see the colorado river?
You're kissing so much corporate *** that
You're selling away our future

We can all wear our geo-thermal suits and toast to you 'W'

Now wiping out the terrorists, that's fine by me
But please don't erode our civil liberties
The America we fight for and hold so dear
Includes a woman's right to choose
Freedom of religion, freedom of assembly
And free speech like the song I'm singing here

Daddy's little helper, silver spoon in your mouth
Policeman of the world gonna start another war
Connecticut yankee in a cowboy hat
You're my hero, Mr. president

Daddy's little helper, silver foot in your mouth
The Policeman of the world gonna kick Hussein's butt
Connecticut yankee in a cowboy hat
You're my hero, Mr. President
You're my hero, Mr. President
You're our nero, Mr. President
Mmmhmm

"this land is your land" by the great woody guthrie. it was his answer to irvin berlin's "god bless america"
"times they are a changin" by bob dylan
"fixin to die rag" by country joe mcdonald
"all good soldiers" by bad religion
"jonathon's song" by steve earle
"john walker blues" by steve earle (steve earle, like bob dylan has lots.

ps. seeing born in the usa listed makes me think of when the song was released and how ronald regan heard about the song, but i guess, really didn't understand the content of the song, called bruce a great american patriot, not realizing that the song was actually bashing the country's stance on war. ronnie wanted to give bruce some presidential medal, but boss turned it down.
