This book is a classic, in my opinion.

It does not have any words at all inside it, it only had pictures showing a snowman coming to life and playing with the small boy who lives inside the house.

What do you think of this book?

Is it not a great book for children to have?

I stil remember this book and I am soon 31!

In the early 80s they made a wonderful little film of this book - really very touching - it tends to be shown on British TV at least once a year, usually at Christmas time, of course. The piece of music "Walking in the Air", sung by choirboy Peter Auty, which accompanied the scene in which the snowman and the boy take off into the skies, became a huge hit a few years later for a young Aled Jones (now a mature singer).

Another story by Raymond Briggs, made into a film, was "When the Wind Blows". I would recommend this. Its initial benign appearance belies a much blacker message about the aftermath of a nuclear incident.

Of course, I am a great fan of Raymond Briggs' work. I still have his "Fungus the Bogeyman Plop-Up Book", an amazing piece of paper engineering which, together with Jan Pienkowski's "The Haunted House" (also a pop up), is one of my treasures.

As an adult I love all my childhood books - or at least I still would had they not been taken without permission while I was away living abroad - I am heartbroken about it..

In the library where I work we call it the "jinxed book". It seems that we have had to replace it at least 7 times since it came out. We put a new copy out and about the third time it gets checked out something happens to it... like it gets dropped into a mud puddle, someones dog chews it up or it is tore up by someones two year old. We just keep having to replace it all the time.

Ohhh..... I LOVED it when they showed it on TV in the early 90s!

The book's lovely and because it has no words, the reader can word the story how they wish (Whilst still keeping it in context of the pictures!).

Raymond Briggs is really good - I like him a lot.

Try Father Christmas, Ug, When the Wind Blows, Fungus the Bogeyman and the 'Bert' series of books too

Sorry, I have never read it before. Maybe I should get it now so that when I have children, I can read it to them.
