I'm thirteen, girl. Christian. I enjoy music styles from Beyonce to Carre Underwood to Beethoven. But in todays' songs. Everything is about sex, almost. I like Beyone, A TON! Her music is wonderful. But if you listen to the lyrics, its mainly about 'come to bed' 'you know i hate lseepign alone' 'tonight i'm all yours' kind of stuff. But not all of her songs are that way. I just enjoy the rythym and sound! I listin to rap, sometimes. But not hardcore, that stuff is degrading and nasty. Songs such as 'Dirty Little Secret' I like, like to just sing it, as a teenage in todays world. I enjoy some of todays' music. Maybe not the full meaning but the sound, voice, rythym, exct. I also like Fallout Boy, sometimes Good Char, and the Pussycat Dolls. My mom said she wants to look through my iPodto see what I'm listning too. So now I feel guilty. Is it bad to listin to today's music. I pick out the cleanest songs possible, ones i like and enjoy. But I'mafraid my mom will freak outon something not ba

i dont think it's unchristian to live in and embrace today's world, and that includes listening to todays music. As long as you dont believe in what they are saying i think its ok to listen to it. I'm pretty sure that God will be able to tell the difference between listening to the music and liking the rythm and tune and believing and following what the lyrics say. As long as you keep the message straight in your heart then I think you'll be fine.

I remember when I was a teenager and I used to have to turn on a secular radio station when my mom wasn't around. I liked their music a lot better. But that was 15yrs. ago. They have so much Christian music to choose from now, that I don't think that you would have a hard time finding music that you would like that was better for you. We think words are just words, but if someone told you that you were worthless everyday, you would start to believe them. The same thing goes for the words in your music. You are subtlely reprogramming your mind, through music, to think the words you are listening to. That may be hard to believe, but I'm telling you the truth. Your mom is just trying to protect you. However, I'm not saying that you shouldn't listen to any secular music at all, unless that is what your mom wants. Otherwise, you need to pick you music very carefully. I know it is hard. I know everything is about sex. But if you can get access to a computer, you can listen to music on Rhapsody. You can find so much good music to listen to, you won't have time to listen to it all. And some examples of Christian music that you might like: Out of Eden- their first and last are the best to me, Stacie OrricoOkay, Gotee, Antonio Neal-great R&B, and Candle-title is Encounters. Falling Up, Kutless, and David Crowder Band are not R&B, but check some of these out. I'm sure you'll like some of them. Anyway, be smarter than everyone else and remember that what you put in, is what will come out. Also ask yourself, whenever you don't know the answer to a question, "WWJD?" LOL to you baby girl.

Hey,
I know what you feel like. It IS hard to not listen to secular music cause it sounds soooo good but it does have bad morals to them! I have tried to find christian bands that I like. I can't really recomend any to ur taste of music other then KJ52 and maybe tobymac. Go to ur local christian book store and check out the music for you taste, believe me their is christian music out there that you would like! I listen to a christian rock station over the web to find some bands that I like. So try to find a christian rap station over the web, that might also help...Hey, ur on the right track...keep it up and stay strong. I hope you can make the right choice based on what God would will.

Little girl. I am a thirty yr. old Christian so please listen to me. Lyrics mean everything. Imagine what is true. The Lord is always with you. If you are listening to something you would feel guilty, ashamed, or weird about with him standing next to you then turn it off. In other words Music is fine but when you question whether or not to play a Beyonce (or other artists) CD. Just think WWJD???

do you really think your god will give a crap that you watched mtv or listened to fallout boy? i hope not. this world is effed up and christains focus all of their energy on the wrong stuff. for the most part christians think it's band to listen to a band that might swear, but they don't frickin recycle and destroy their god's planet. they think tattoos are wrong because it's body modification, but wear makeup and pierce their ears? that's okay i guess. christians have it all wrong and look up to all the wrong people. they get their news from the 700 clubs, which is most inacurrate right winged propaganda. why should mom care what you listen to? clean songs? eff that. would your god really care that you listen to a swear word in a song, when he destroyed the whole world's population with flood, every war this world has ever had has been because of god. god has killed billions over the years. why would he care if you listen to pussycat dolls.
do something to help out your god's earth. recycle, don't pollute or waste. don't kill god's animals for foods. and don't be such a hippocrite.
to quote gandhi, "god is in everything"
whoever or whatever god is i really don't think he'd care that you listen to "heathen" music. in the grand sceam of things, it's nothing. tell your mom to shove it up her a$$.

download and play this song for your mom, who i imagine is a republican and loves her president.
"all good soldiers" by bad religion off the album "stranger than fiction"
the lead singer is a Phd from cornell university. he's is a very smart and eduated man who cares about this world and doesn't need to trust a 2000 plus year old book for guidance.

I agree, you just have to pick out the songs with no profanity. Actually it's more about how people view things....some hip-hop people treat women like a piece of meat. I think if you're over 18 and understand more, it's easier to listen to that kind of music though because you aren't as easily influenced as you are when you're 13.

Just check the songs to see if they are "explicit". If they are, don't listen to them - listen to the clean versions.

I am a 17yr old Christian and I don't think that it is un-christian to listen to the today's music, but I do agree that you should seriously be very careful with what you may choose to listen to, because some songs are very bad, but don't get me wrong that some songs are good. I also have a friend who listens to disco music more then he does christian music and his mother doesn't get mad at him. But I also agree that you should definitely respect your mother with what she says.

I think it's okay to listen to music that doesn't focus on sex or violence; I don't know why any Christian would want to listen to music that does. If your mother tells you not to listen to certain music, you should do as she says until you can pay your own rent. She doesn't want you influenced by the wrong kind of music. Respect her.
