That saying may be true...but it may not be...A rose by any other name may smell as sweet...but it really would not be a rose....would the thorns be there??? They are there to protect the sheer beauty and fragility of the Rose!
So I must say there may be more to a name than we think.
Would I be who I am....with a different name..I think not..for I would be a different person. This Q can get very deep. But one must say names do have a reason...otherwise how would you know what to call anything...why is a chair..not called a table? On and on..etc. etc.
What if your mother named you $h!t face..a name would not just be a name...Ciao!

Juliet: O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name, or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet.
Romeo: Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?
Juliet: 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy, thou art thyself though not a Montague. What is Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot, nor arm, nor face, nor any other part belonging to a man. Oh, what's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet; so Romeo would, were he not Romeo called, retain that dear perfection to which he owes without that title. Romeo, doff thy name! And for thy name, which is no part of thee, take all myself.
