It belonged to a relative in the cherokee nation.
The leather is a band if manhood,
The Rabbit fur is for speed and cunning
The first feather(Turkey) I think was for stanama

Not a clue, but if you are thinking of the usual mental image of the kind with eagle feathers... From what I've always been told, Eagle feathers were and are awarded for brave deeds, especially in battle. Like in old times, I've heard that many Native soldiers today earn feathers for their time spent in active duty.

The more feathers someone gained, the more there was to wear, and naturally people developed a style of wearing so many. Naturally, these men were often of high rank and authority in their tribe.

First they are the true Americans, those of us who's ancestors came here from Europe are the intruders. The Native-American culture is beautiful, simple and one of the oldest in the world. Since I was born in America, I'm legally American, but can never really be a native of this country since it was stolen from it's rightful people. My husband is a Native-American. He has taught me more about the culture then I ever learned in school. I think Native-Americans are fascinating. And I love my husband very much, we've been married almost 32 years.

Not all Native American ancestors wore head dresses.

This is usually associated with Western Plains peoples that had Algonkin roots. Dene and Iroquoian nations did not wear head dresses (some did, but most lived on the plains and were heavily influenced by other plains peoples).

The head dress was associated with status. For example, int he Blackfoot nation when a young man did a brave deed, he recieved a valuable feather. A head dress with many feathers noted one who was very brave and a leader amongst his people.
