A four month old is still being breast or bottle fed. They will absolutely love baby cereal, especially if you add some stage one fruits, such as applesauce or bananas. My children loved to eat everything in sight- I really got lucky. As far as recipes, you can feed your baby anything you can mix in a blender real smooth. I wouldn't advise meats, and introduce one food per week so you know if the child is allergic to it. Are you eligible for WIC? Women, Infants, and Children have classes that teach parents what and how to feed their babies. Avoid peanuts, or anything hard & round. Don't give ffinger foods, unless they are older and their pincher grasp with their forefinger and thumb. Another thing- put the food on the tray and allow the baby to play with the puree- they can fingerpaint with it, and feel the different textures while eating. It's a great way to feed them- the making's of good eating habits!

i started my son on fruits (half teaspoon at a time) and rice cereal at 4 months. at 5 months now, he is eating about 1 - 2 teaspoons nearly everyday (sometimes we skip a day). somebody just told me though that we should of started w/ veggies (sweet potatoes, carrots, peas) b/c a baby can get picky with veggies if introduced to fruits first. so far he loves pears, likes apples and enjoys bananas. i felt my son was ready since he did not spit it out & seemed to be so interested in food & really enjoyed the taste of something new. other people however will adamantly swear not to give baby anything too early b/c of digestive problems. just make certain breastmilk &/or formula are the main part of his diet and if you do start your baby on solids, start a little at a time & see how he does. good luck.

My son was Breast fed, but, we give him whatever he would eat from our plates, usually soft stuff. Mashed Potatoes, eggs, cereal soak until soft, etc. (Even a very small piece of home made hamburger, and he loved Bananas).
But, I also took an Infant CPR course to be prepared before he was born. Never bought baby food, it people food in a rip off form. But, you have to do what you feel best.
A Blender make anything you eat good for the baby, may need to add a little milk to get it soft.

If your baby shows readiness yes he is allowed...If your babies can hold he's head up. Shows signs of chewing movements and quite interested of what your eating. you can cook him apple, peach&pear with no skins, cooked potato, kumara, carrots my 5months old daughter loves it very much it should be fine smooth texture, runny or pureed foods. you can get baby rice cereals to any supermarkets...Try new food every 3-4 days and it will take up to 10 tastes before baby may like he's new food. Breastmilk still the most important for 4-6months old baby though...i continue breastfeeding my baby even she eats. ... hope this helps.. cheers :)
with your cooked foods you can put them in an ice cube container and put in the freezer and if you want to put an extra fluid on the food use breastmilk, boiled water or your babie's formula. ;)

At 4 months, I started my kids on baby cereals made with breastmilk. Only try one grain at a time, though! Turned out my first was allergic to the barley cereals, so we had to watch out for that. Our ped said that barley allergies in very young kids are fairly common & they tend to outgrow it. Apparently rice is the least allergenic of all the grain cereals.

If you are going to start him on foods, start him on a little rice cereal.Get a box of baby rice ceral and mix it with his formula. Don't make it thick or he will choke. You should talk with a doctor or nurse about feeding your baby solids.

this is a good age to introduce baby cereal. If he just pushes it out with his tounge, it probably means he is not ready, adn you should wait a few weeks before trying again.

If you are just breast feeding, it is generaly thought best to wait until at least 6 months old.
