A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. You take the courses that are required in college for med school (there'll be a pre-med counselor to let you know what these are -- bio, chem, physics, organic chem, calculus, etc). After med school (4 years), you do your internship in medicine, and a residency in psychiatryc(I think 4 additional years). Good luck!

Psychiatry is a field of medicine. You would pursue a course of undergraduate study that would prepare you for medical school, attend medical school for four years, complete a four-year residency program, and apply for board certification. Psychology would require a master's or doctoral degree and would take about 6-8 years vs. 12 yrs. psychiatry.
