everyone knows how racist and cruel people in the world are, but does it suprise you sometimes how kind total strangers are when you need support and advice the most?

Surprised me that someone added this question. I was getting a little down on all the negative and hate there can be here. Personally, I've been trying to be nicer since I don't know anyone personally. Probably be real surprised meeting some people here.
I just think sometimes our little evil side comes out when we believe we are anonymous and want to spread a little hate and venom. If I wanted that kind of abuse, I wouldn't have retired from the Police dept. I will try to remember your mention of Kindness whenever I give an answer. Thanks!

Yes, it does surprise me whether it happens on this site or everywhere else. Some people are perfectly happy to help anyone in need, and I like to think that I try to be one of those people.
That said, there are still a lot of bad people out there. It's easy to lose faith in humanity if most of the people you deal with are those people.

I helped a nice lady fall asleep last night, yay for me!
Unfortunately I also recently fell victim to the cruelty of a user who disagreed with me and decided to send harassing emails. On the flip side, when I was experiencing chest pains at 3am one night, I received the utmost support. I was surprised, and so thankful... I'm not religious, but it seriously touched my heart when someone posted that they were praying for me.

Surprising, yes, but amazingly, in time of real trouble, people usually come through to help. On the whole, I think most people like to help others if they know they are in need of serious help.

Yes, I actually had a few really nice answers that surprised me. Even more was when someone gave me a best answer and then in their comment they were really nice about it and said they believed in me...it was really nice :)
