You can't love somebody without respecting and admiring them. Calling you stupid is not only immature but very disrespectful. Stand up for yourself. Tell her that you deserve her to speak to you in an adult fashion. Paying bills off is awesome. You should shout for joy!
In her defense though, she may be stressed out and worried about something. Most people take their worries out on people they love without thinking about it. Tell her how you feel and how she made you feel by calling you stupid.

This is exactly what I would say " I don't call you stupid, so I would appriciate it if you didn't call me stupid neither. I'm sorry for trying to have a little fun and be happy that we've paid our bills off. Maybe you could share in the excitement with me instead of making me feel like crap."

Tell her she's stupid because she should be happy to have the bills paid too. But really you should find out why in the world she would say something like that. Tell her it's rude and to think before she speaks.

You really are stupid. I guess if you are as stupid as you obviously are, you don't even know it.
Let me point something out to you. You wife called you stupid and you are so stupid, you don't know what to do. So you come to yahoo and ask what you should do.
Since you ask, you should tell your wife she is right. Apologize to her for being stupid. Tell her you can't help it, that it's the way you were born.

I'd probably say something like "Well you're no rocket scientist yourself dear. I try not to make it a point to point that out though. Do you think you could do me the same favor??" And I'd have a dirty look on my face.
Sometimes people dont realize how harsh they're being unless you throw it right back at 'em.

Tell her it hurts you. Then hand her the duties of paying the bills. Tell her you feel that someone more mature needs to be handling them.

Tell her, "Your the one that married this "stupid guy" so you must not be too smart yourself" That should shut her up. Hell if you wanna pay off my bills, I'll be calling you a damn genius...lol!

You did it the right way. It hurt your feelings and you handled it the way you should have. Just be honest and say that she shouldn't talk to you that way.

Be a man and take it on the chin now and then. Serious or not. Focus on the positive side --- you were celebrating. Possible that you have one uptight wife.
