I am against gun control.
I mean, the government has an obligation to protect citizens from criminals, but how good of a job do they actually do? I agree with background checks, but most of the other laws that are on the books do nothing to stop crime.
Example: The assult weapon ban of 1994. Made guns illegal that held more than so many rounds, made collapsable stocks illegal, made bayonet lugs illegal... Tell me how any of those stipulations prevented crime. Even with the law, those items could still be bought from private people and on the black market. All it did was prevented an honest person from buying such guns - like my AR-15 has all of those feature, but it is no more prone to cause crime than a hunting rifle that was never illegal.
Now, lets look at this logically NOT IDEALISTICALLY. If more people began concealing and carrying weapons legally (in most states you have to apply for a license and take a class) do you honestly think a criminal would feel as free to commit a violent crime knowing that there is a good chance that his victim has the means to protect themselves? Yes, crime would still occur, BUT it has been proven in states such as Florida, Texas, and West Virginia that the greater the percentage of people who have concealled weapons permits is complemented by a lower percentage of vilent crime.
If a man were to break into your home in the middle of the night, and you did not know if he was armed or not, would you rather have a cell phone, a baseball bat, or a gun?
Virginia Tech is a prime example of how gun laws fail. The university strictly enforced a no weapon policy on its premeses. Consequently, the honest students were not armed, even if they were licensed, it still was not permited. One criminal broke the rules with a gun he bought illegally and slaughtered 32 students. Had any one of those students or witnesses been armed, they would have been able to neutralize the threat and saved at least some lives.
Japan: Guns have been completely banned for many year. Last month, the mayor of Nagasaki was shot by a gang member. The honest people gave their guns up, but the gangs still have them.

Gun Control advocates think that by passing a law they can "control" guns out of existence. All a law can do is make gun ownership illegal - it can't make them go away.
VA Tech, Colombine, the Amish school - what do they have in common? They all had gun control!
Every serial killing involving guns has this in common - they always occur where gun control is already a reality. You don't see attacks on the Texas Cattlemen's Society. That's because they only feel happy when they go on a killing spree when they know that no-one can shoot back. If every teacher at school carried a gun, the shooters would stay away from schools.
Gun control means making it illegal for good law-abiding people to own a gun. That means they cannot defend themselves against criminals who will always be able to buy a gun.
Gun Control, applied nationally, would turn the whole country into an unarmed shooting gallery.
Probably not a good idea.

OK, let's look at this logically, we hear gun control will stop these senseless murders, how many people a year die from guns? Now let's use the same test on automobiles, are we going to ban cars, why not ? when there are more people killed by cars than by guns. You see there is no common sense to it, the guns didn't commit the crime the criminal did, you can't legislate the cure for what ails society, these criminals don't care about the laws we have now, why would any new ones matter?

I don't think there is one good enough reason to ban guns or allow them. If we were to ban them, then what about other weapons? Knives can kill a person also, so do we ban those? We something more to help discriminate who can buy a gun. Say for instance a psychological test. An interview process or something. Or even a safety class first before you can buy one. I understand the inconvenience it causes good people who use them for game or home protection. But maybe some added difficulties would make others think twice before attempting to buy one.

I have never seen a gun grow legs, walk up and shoot someone!
I am very much against more gun control and if you examine the places with tight gun control, you will find a high rate of gun crimes. In those places, the criminals have the advantage since they don't go through legal measures to obtain guns. All you are creating is more victims.
Besides that, there are all sorts of ways to kill people. If someone is intent on killing, they will do it with or without a gun.

1. Gun control : Not going to happen. This country was founded, and remains grounded in INDIVIDUAL rights. That is one right that will not be steamrolled. 2. Government is doing NOTHING to regulate birth control. Stephie (George Stephanopolopolopous) threw that question out as a setup to Obama's pseudobattle with the Catholics, which turned into a presidential decree "free birth control for everyone courtesy of the insurance companies". There is no regulation impending, anywhere in the US.

I am against crazy people and felons from owning guns. But the fact is that "good" people use firearms to protect themselves, family members, and property more than "bad" people use them to commit crimes by a ratio of around 4-5 to 1.
Gun laws are only obeyed by law-abiding citizens. Criminals don't obey the law (that's whey we call them "criminals.") Do you honestly think that somebody who doesn't care about going to prison for murder or armed robbery really cares about gun laws?
That why gun confiscation is utterly mindless. Statistics have repeatedly shown that it doesn't work. Look at the United Kingdom and Australia. They confiscated all the guns from the law abiding citizens and the gun crime rose considerably.
Gun-grabbing only leaves the good guys defenseless and the bad guys more dangerous. I'm sorry, but those are the facts; not liking them doesn't change anything.

Arguments against it are that in Colorado Springs it is legal to carry a concealed gun and our crime rate is half the national average. Bad guys are scared here of hurting others.
In Salt Lake city last year an Islamist starting shooting people in a mall, killed 6 before someone with a concealed gun stopped him.

We already have gun control, over 20,000 gun laws on the books. We don't need any more laws or bans. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Guns are used as a tool.
