Serious answers only please, I know they give off such an odor when you start killing them so I was wondering if I injested any ants if that might be making me feel sick. I know it is stupid, you don't need to remind me :)

I love ants and spiders and all, but they have totally invaded my house. I worked over the many years to save them and hate killing them because I think they are so amazing, but there comes a point of frustration, when I just run water over them and I think I've had them crawl onto something I was drinking or eating and injested them. I have CFIDS and a weak system so I"ve been on the down side and after smelling their released toxins, I thought maybe it might be why I am sick. I don't usually kill them now, I just send them for a long flight to the floor.

LOL I'm just wondering how you "accidentally" ate a few ants! However, no, I don't think it will make you sick. Maybe thinking about it will though. :)

Generally, one or two small ants *shouldn't* cause problems unless you're allergic. However, if you're feeling sick I would definitely recommend that you get checked out by a doctor, in case you are having a reaction to them; if you start having anything like shortness of breathing, or your skin tingles, then *definitely* get help immediately. The choice of what to do is, of course, yours. Whatever happens, though, I wish you luck and that you feel better soon and are alright.

Entomologists have been quite bothered by ants that use a formic acid defense. A lot of ants can put up a rather toxic cloud of formic acid. Why are you killing them, though?

Seriously--no, they won't have an effect on you. They'll die as soon as they hit the stomach acids, and ants (generally dead, though) have been eaten as food for thousands of years.

nope. actually, ants are high in protein or some vitamins like that. they just taste pretty bad, like metals. but their unusual sometimes revolting odor might make someone sick.

Once they get into your stomach they burn in stomach acid. You will be fine. No harm done. (how do you accidentally swallow ants?)
