They cann't have moons because of the small size of the planet, that is also why Mercury has little atmoshere, there is not enough gravity to hold the atmosphere around the planet.
Venus has a huge amount of gravity ( for its little size,) that is why the atmosphere on Venus is so thick and dense.

Planets closer to the Sun have difficulty in retaining satellites because of the Sun's gravity.

Earth probably wouldn't have a satellite either except for the collision that formed the Moon... since the Moon is so large, the gravitational interaction between them counterbalanced the Sun's disruptive influence.
