Miracle Grow is high in Nitrogen which makes things green up fast. Each box has three numbers on it. The first one is nitrogen and is always high. Find one with a more balanced series of numbers for good flower production and strong roots. Water well and add those little water retention beads..they work!

I have to agree that fish oil is wonderful. Indians used to plant a fish next to their corn to make it more productive. Good luck and have fun!

Miracle Gro is really good. It is not for an organic garden, though, if this is a concern. There is a special Miracle Gro for flowers that encourages and enumerates blooms. There is even a special one for roses. In your window boxes, just fill them up with Miracle Gro potting soil (Moisture Control is best for this.) The garden with the clay soil may need a bit more help. Get some bags of peat moss, perlite, mulch, manure, bone meal or any such additives. Spread them evenly over the surface of your garden, then till them in. This will add nutrients to the soil, but better yet it helps aerate the area to promote healthier root growth. If the soil is far too clay and presents problems after this, you may consider digging out the poor soil and replacing it with good stuff. Good luck!

good answer Ryan....thanks for not saying 'add sand'. Yes, miracle grow does make a difference. There is also a miracle gro potting mix that is great. Follows Ryans advice for clay soil.

If miracle-grow is a time awarding step in getting beautiful foliage you should as said feed the plants twice a month if the plant grows steady, once a month for slower growing plants or flowers.

miracle grow helps. There should be one specific for flowers. Usually brands like this recommend pouring the solution on the vegetation and on the ground. Works very nicely.
