The Phillies' mascot is not a horse - he is a Phanatic. If you're talking about team name, Phillies, that is also not referring to a horse - it is just a shortened form of the word Philadelphia.

The Phanatic is a play on the PH in Philaelphia Phillies.
Watching the Philly Phanatic is a lot of Phun.

The original name was "Fillies" as in a female horse. They were also known as the "Quakers" and the "Blue Jays", but neither name stuck. The current spelling is a play off of the PH in Philadelphia.
