If you are an adult at 18, required to pay taxes, can vote, smoke cigarettes, join the military and die for this country, along with all the other privileges, rights and duties associated with becoming an adult, why can't you go out after a work day and have a beer or two legally, without risk of jail or fines?? Unite 18-20 year olds, change this law. I'll vote for it.

The issue it seems that the hold up is highway funds. That is how all the drinking ages got to be 18. The federal government, when it wants something, like the speed limit lowered or the drinking age lowered threaten to cut off all your highway funds if you don't. Most states can't get by without them!

It really isn't up to you to vote them back in as we are a Representative Republic, not a democracy!

If you got all your legislators and governor to agree, you can lower the age. Be prepared to get hit with a BIG tax for roads!

As far as I am concerned, most 18 year-olds can't drive sober! A few exceptions, like farm states where kids have been driving for as long as their foot hit the pedal of a tractor!

There are a whole lot of good reasons not to change this law, most of which can be backed up with studies and statistics. The only good reason I can think of to change the law is that on the surface it seems to be unfair. Suck it up, there are lots of things in life that aren't fair. I had to wait till I was 21, and yes I served my country in the military during the first Gulf War. Today's 18 year old can wait till they are 21, and it won't kill them. If we change the law the result will no doubt be even more young people dieing in car wrecks, or from binge drinking. The only people who would really benefit from changing the law would be the companies making the booze, and they really don't need the money.

Actually, the legal age for most things cited should be raised beyond the age of 18. Hekc...most places you can't even rent a car until you're 25! Besides, as it is, seems plenty of those under the age of 21 (and under the age of 18) seem to have no problem whatsoever getting their hands on alcohol.

Definitely NO!!! Most of the "of age" crowd can't handle the responsibilty of drinking & particularly driving. How is an 18 year old going to? I would not vote for it and the only people I know that would are 18, which are not many.

When I turned 18 they lowered the drinking age to 18. Cool eh? Anyway, the number of alcohol related deaths in the 18-21 age group rose so dramatically that the year I turned 22 it went back to 21. So I wouldn't be holding my breath since the data is so black and white.

Again I will say that the reason the drinking age is so old is because drinking effects parts of your body that has not yet matured into adulthood. Starting drinking under 22 actually messes up many parts of your body more than if you were to start drinking after 22 simply because it tampers with your bodies maturity and growth.

The drinking age is not set to mental maturity like people usually say, but instead physical maturity.

I trust "privateness now please"...with one exception: decrease the criminal ingesting age to 18 for protection force workers purely, yet i'd improve it to twenty-5 for honestly everyone else. i'm seeing too many irresponsible children killing one yet another on the roads and in fights and jumping off homes etc. in the journey that they're going to fill their bodies with concepts replacing chemical compounds, they ought to have adequate basic experience in position and subconsciously ingrained earlier doing so. and that is something purely age can receive. on condition that there truly isn't a call for elevating the ingesting age for the final public of the inhabitants, then i wager my answer is "not one of the above".

So since it's ok they have one vice your point is why stop there? That kind of reasoning qualified you to be a health teacher? You should raise the age on cigarettes and maybe we'll have fewer deaths caused by cancer and a less of a financial burden on our society. We must not have enough deaths due to drunk drivers to satisfy you, I really don't think you have thought this through.
