My HP desktop runs good and performs just fine, even when playing games~but lately the fan/motor has kicked in really loud and VERY often, and I can't figure out why. I analyzed and ran the defrag after deleting unused files, but still if I open more than one window there goes the fan. It sounds like there is always a vaccuum going in my office!!! Can anyone help me out, any ideas would really help me out.

Is it you personal computer? If it is take to a gas station wiht air and blow it out. Open the case and hose the crap out of it (The crap is what is causing the fan to run) the dust causes heat build up and this causes the fan to run more often and cuts down on air flow compounding the problem. Caned air is good but expensave, on top of that it does not have the presuer that a compresser does.

If you have dust in your fan it will make noise like this, even a closed computer can get dust in it after a few months/years, especially if you smoke or have pets.

I suggest that you open up the side of your computer (Make sure you don't take anything out, or pull on the wires) and blow the dust out then put the side back on. If it is really dusty, or if it keeps making the same noise, get a can of compressed air (from your local computer shop) since that will blow dust out of every little corner and won't damage your hardware like brushing it might, that should fix it until the next time it gets dusty.

Hi!
This may be due to dust buildup inside the tower of your computer. Not many people know this, but it is reccomended that you physically open up your computer and spray compressed air into it to release dust buildup about once every year. If you decide to do this yourself, be sure to unplug the computer before hand and be careful not to touch any componants inside the tower unless you ground yoursefl first.

Good luck!

Try a replacement case fan. They're about $10. If it's not the case fan you could always use it as a spare or an additional, athough it's sounds like you don't need any more noise :)

Take a can of compressed air and blow your fans, and all vent holes out. You should probably take the side of the case off, and blow out the fan(s) inside the case too.
