Welfare is so mismanaged. I'm sure there are people out there who really need it, but it seems like there are so many who take advantage of it who can certainly be working, but don't because it's easier to take Uncle Sam's (ie, yours and my) money.

The implementation of Medicare and Medicaid irk me. To provide better medical coverage for the old than for children makes no sense. There is a gap in coverage between people who can afford insurance and people who are poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. Government paid medical care is what is driving the increases in social welfare spending and we are not getting what we should for the money.

I too believe welfare is mismanaged but I think the previous response is incorrect. Most forms of welfare require that you are working in order to receive the benefits; i.e. food stamps and TAFT. These requirements most likely vary by state though.
