Grover Cleveland was the mayor of Buffalo, New York in 1882. He became Governor of NY and was elected President 2 years later.

Andrew Johnson served as mayor of Greeneville, Tennessee from 1830 to 1833. He went on to become State Representative, Senator, US Representative, Governor of Tennessee, US Senator and Vice President.

Calvin Coolidge served as mayor of Northhampton, Massachusetts from 1910-1911. He went on to become State Senator, Lt Governor, Governor and Vice President.
