Part of it depends on what kinds of African cichlids. Unfortunately there are many questions around here regarding 'africans', which is too vague for any real answers since 'africans' can vary greatly in size and temperment. It would also be dependent on the size of the tank, which has also not been mentioned.

Bottom dwellers tend to be ignored a lot by many Africans - (many people go with clown loaches) and Balas can stand the chance of working. It's best to try it with larger specimens, and only if you have a very large size tank, and they must be kept in a group. Yet despite the fact that it might work, this is a might, and it's also possible the cichlids will go after them. We just don't know enough details for a better reply.

In the end a nice rift like catfish like Syno Multipunctatus is the better choice, since they are also fast and feisty like the cichlids tend to be.

bala Sharks recuperate from a foot lengthy and could outgrow your tank. Silver funds get about 0.5 as enormous yet they favor extra ( a school of a minimum of 6 or so) as they're a education fish. the african cichlids have diverse water parameters than the different fish you reported. i'd go back the bala sharks and both get 4 extra silver funds and perchance some bottom fish like cory cats, or do purely all small african cichilds like yellow labs. desire this permits and characteristic relaxing. if the chiclids are not that big. the best thing to do would be when you add the balas move around the decor in the tank so that the cichlids territory is messed up and then he will not be so terretorial.

Not a good match for several reasons. One they prefer quite different water chemisty and second, the africans will most likely, depending on species, kill the balas in short order.
