I have children that are

16, 15, 13, 13, 10, 8, 7, 5, 3, 3. They don't have many chores because I'm a stay at home mom and I do a lot of cleaning during the day, but when I need random things done they usually do things without hassle. Everyone can take a part two can take on the bathrooms, three can take on bed making, little ones can clean up toys, two can pick up the toys in the yard...things like that. All except the last three get five dollars a week depending on grades and behavior.

I'm 14 almost 15 and I clean the house everyday. My siblings and I change chores every week and b4 the weekend we clean the whole house spotless. I've been doing this since I was in diapers! lol I guess since I live under my parents roof, get free food, and clothes and a place to sleep i can at least clean. I don't get an allowance and I go to school. I can't stand people who say they don't have time to clean or stuff and I go to school and clean and have pets that I have to take care of and I don't hang with my friends much. My parents are raising me for the real world!

When I was a teen (like 10 years ago) and lived at home (starting before I was a teen) I had to do ALL of the household chores, excepting trash and litter boxes. I swept, mopped, dusted, made beds, did all the laundry, cleaned the bathrooms and the kitchen, and did all the dishes...in addition to yardwork and helping my stepfather with other man-chores he didn't have a son to do for him. Get this...my allowance???? $0.00.

well i know this is for parents ( obviously ) but i am going to answere this any-ways

iam 14 and i am really not in to chores right now ( even though my parents force me o do this) but i enjoy doing it when i am in a mood. the best way is to get rid of or stop the current thing they are doing like watching a movie or listening to music, but donot mention any thing about the chores, but insted slowly get rid of things for them to do and eventually they will not be distracted ( i know it is a little longer than just yelling at them and then they slaming the door at you but it is considerble, just full, succsesfull, and oh ya quiter). Any how
teens will have a sencesible surrounding and then you ( parents ) strike and then they will not have an excuse.

yes i know i am a stupid teenager and you probably give me milion hands downs, but iam a hard worker and i enjoy doing chores but not the same chore every day! ( c'mon even i need a break ) and i don't ask my parents to pay me to work or help clean up the house, insed i am rather greate full for them giving me a roof and good food to eat, and oh ya clean clothing.
PS: the reson most teens which are pregenated and are abuseing drugs & alcahol is because parents either don't have time for there kids or you don't bond enough or well to your kids

PS: moms it is always better to have a grand father or husband who is in the military because this influence your child alot ( look how i turned out ) ( and if you are wondering who in my family is from the army it's my grand father and my aunt who are in royal indian air force !

yes - i am from india!
but, i moved to us when i was 9 ( and yes it has influence me.. alot!., especially all this drug and alcahol deal ughhh....)

good bye!

I never felt that allowance should be attached to chores. Allowance also depends on where you live and in what type of community. If your ten year old gets $5 a week, that would be enough for some trading cards and a treat. Your high schooler should probably get about $10 (at least) for lunches and incidentals. About 16, I started giving him some money, but expected him to get a part time job and save a portion of that.

However, when we moved into another neighborhood, a lot of the kids got $50 a week (way to much in my book), so his allowance had to increase some so that he could be with him friends.

I have a 13 year old daughter, she helps with the laundry and the dishes and pretty much anything else I ask her to do. She does not get an allowance but anytime she needs something she tells me and I make sure she gets it. I am pretty lucky that she doesn't ask for much so when she does ask for something I am happy to get it for her.

If I were to give her an allowance I probably wouldn't do more than $20 a week for her age. She doesn't have a lot of expenses right now. She doesn't drive or anything if she did I would make sure her allowance would at least cover her buying gas for her car.

when I was a teen I used to help carry wood in for the wood stove, vacuume weekly, do the dishes in the mornings, and make supper a couple nights a week (ages 15- leaving home) I didn't get allowence but my parents would give me money occasionally to buy my lunch at school or see a movie. They gave me the option to have a set weekly allowence or to get money when I needed it. (I picked the second one because that way I couldn't blow it all in one day, and the find out on the weekend my friends were going to a movie.
I was also babysitting at that time, so I didn't really get much money from my parrents, sense I was making my own on the weekends.

I have a 13 year old and household chores include cleaning room, putting out the trash and watching his younger brother and sister when I shower. His allowance is usually about 15 a week, but that is because I buy mostly everything else, but he has to save for video games, plus he has taken it upon himself to mow lawns and he can earn about 45 dollars a week.

I'm no longer the parent of a teen since she is now an adult, the only "chore" she had to do was keep her room straightened up and pick up after herself, when she got things out. I don't believe i giving allowances due to the fact that I don't think it is necessary to pay a child to live in the home you are providing for them.

I have 5 children, ages 17,15, 14,13 and 9. The oldest four rotate cleaning the living room, dining room, kitchen, bath and hallway. My boys ages 14 & 9 take out the trash. The house is vacuumed daily and whom every has the living room and hall at the time takes care of it. Chores are daily and they (the older 4) receive $20.00 a week. We also deduct money when chores aren't done $2.00 a day. My youngest is 9 and he gets $10.00 a week because all he does is take out the trash and vacuum.
