To Kill a Mockingbird SOME MISTAKES

As Jem and Scout pass through their trying summers, each child develops keen senses of life and how to live it. Scout, a tomboy battles with her temper, her boyish front, and the notion that her father is too old to be loved like the fathers of her friends. Atticus struggles in teaching Scout to be a lady- a common problem between stubborn child and stern father- but nevertheless, proves to Jem that he is not a completely old man. Jem, a growing boy, is conditioned to learning lessons and never even sees his next one coming.
In chapter ten of Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Jem learns from Atticus that humility deserves more respect that false bravado. For example, “he did not do the things our school mates’ fathers did: he never went smoking, he did not play poker or fish or drink or smoke. He sat in the living room and read. (89)” This shows that Jem thinks of his father as a nobody. Atticus, to Jem, is a very boring father, completely incomparable to any other cool father. This means that despite his tremendous respect for Atticus, Jem shows he is immature and can not look pasta boring front into a good man. In addition, “Take him, Mr. Finch; Mr. Tate handed the rifle to Atticus; Jem and I nearly fainted. (95)” This shows that Jem is surprised that Atticus is handed the gun, and that he does not even trust his father to get the job done. This means that Jem, although confused seeing Atticus with a gun, starts to shed his young outer shell of ignorance, and see truth, though he might not know it yet. In addition, “With movements so swift… the rifle cracked. (96) Jem sat in numb confusion… became vaguely articulate… (97) ‘Don’t say anything about it, Scout… Atticus is a gentleman, just like me!’ (99)” this shows that Jem realizes that Atticus is not boring and old, but fascinating and wise. It clicks for him to see Atticus shoot that gun- not only to prove that he does have a worthy trait, but to show that he keeps quiet for a reason. This means that Jem learns to be mature by seeing his father be a gentleman instead of a show off. This also means that Jem really understands his father and thinks of him more as an equal than a discipline enforcer.
Jem learns in one day the secret to respect from others, and most of all, realizes that Atticus is not a mysterious giant, but a loving man full of knowledge and truth. To the Finch children before the day of Tim Robinson’s unfortunate death, respect was referring to someone as ‘Sir,’ or ‘Ma’am’ and not forgetting please and thank you. Chapter ten of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” is the epitome of childhood selfishness, and the rabid dog and shotgun acts as the magical elixir to cure Jem’s ignorance. After that day, Jem is cured of his childish behavior- and respect is not only speaking the part, but playing it too. Scout, being to young to understand all of this, is help by Jem along, the way- the proper appreciable way to treat one’s sister.

What does Atticus tell Jem about killing a mockingbird? Jem will be a mockingbird because he's attacked with the help of Bob Ewell even although he would not surely reason any harm to Mr. Ewell right away. in this form, Jem is nearly a mocking chook. yet in actuality, it really is Boo Radley and Tom Robinson who're the mockingbirds.
