A dual core processor is any processor that has two cores. Core 2 Duo which i believe is what you are referring to is the name of a particular line of processors. Core 2 Duo is basically just a name, like Pentium 4, Pentium D, Celeron D, Athlon, etc. are. Core 2 Duos are dual core processors, just like Core Duos, Pentium Ds, Athlon 64 X2s, and others are. Core 2 Duos happen to be the newest and best performing of those listed.
