Okay, I've had my betta 4 3 and a half weeks and i started out by feeding him 6 betta bites in the morning. This past week, ive been giving him 6 pellets in the morning nd a frozen bloodworm @ night nd idk if its my imagination but he's starting 2 get a little chubby. Idk if its my imagination or what. is this the proper amount of food, am i doing anything wrong? Please provide pics of how chubby a betta should and should not be. THANX!

That might be a bit much, I would suggest maybe 4 betta bites. I feed my breeders 3-5 mini pellets in the morning and a frozen or live food in the evening. Show fish a little more and fry 4-5 times a day.

Look through these pictures of IBC Show bettas, these are all in great shape, weight finnage and everything else. This club produces some of the best in the nation if not in the world.

Hope that helps

you could be over feeding.

You should only feed your betta what they are able to eat in 30 seconds or so. Otherwise the tend to either over eat- or what drops to the bottom turns to waste and will muck up your water.

Some people say to feed :

1-2 pellets - 2 to 3x a day
or
3 to 4 pellets 1x a day.

I personally feed my bettas 1x every OTHER day, and its either 4 pellets OR frozen bloodworms, OR live brineshrimp. I mix it up and feed something different each day during feeding time. And my bettas have lived long and healthy lives. One lived to be 5 years old. General rule of thumb is 2-3 years. (Though I've seen them as old as 6-7)

So every other day worked for me best.

Try cutting back on the betta bites. 6 bites plus bloodworms may be just too much.

Could be the initial signs of internal bacterial infection, of course, if he is still eating voraciousely, he's probably fine.

One thing though, a tell tale sign of internal infection is distended scales, especially around the swollen belly. If he looks like some of his scales are popping out or if he is having a bouyancy problem, you might have the begginings of an issue. Otherwise, there's just more of him to love.

Well..you wanted a pic..laugh.

As embarrassing as it is, bettas get constipated and feeding bloowdworms too often is a cause. Please click the link below to see more info on this condition AND a pic of the poor...umm...full ... betta.
