To speed up your labor you can keep moving and use gravity to your advantage. During my labor I would walk around and then when a contraction would come I would squat with my hands on the floor or get on my knees and put my head on the bed.
When you transition and it's time to push, again use gravity to help baby out quicker. This could mean squatting, getting on all fours or even standing slightly bent over.
Quite often, women find that what their body is telling them to is the right thing. A doctor will want you to lie in bed but that's not conducive to labor - it just gives him a better view when he's checking you out. LOL

Homebirths tend to go faster than hospital births, because of the mom's comfort level. If you aren't comfortable with homebirth (FYI, homebirth is at least as safe as hospital birth), stay home as long as you can during labor, only going in when things are very advanced. Take a good childbirth class to help you learn ways to work with your body. Natural births tend to progress faster than medicated births. Epidurals often slow things down.
Labor is unpredictable, and while there are things you can do to make things go faster, you have to be ready to roll with the punches. I've had it both ways, my hospital birth which was almost 28 hours, and my homebirth which was not quite 4 hours. They each had advantages.

Ask your doctor about pitocin. It makes labour go faster, but also makes contractions stronger and more painful. My advice (and it's a good 1) EPIDURAL!!!!!
p.s. having sex in your late stages of pregnancy, like around your due date can bring on labour, so is walking but not as much.

During early labor if you water hasn't broke walk. Gravity helps with the baby's head pressing sown on the cervix it helps it to dilate.

Staying off your back..Stay walking as much as you can..Or, standing, rocking your hips back and forth..Also, raspberry leaf tea and squaw vine teas
