I have a friend whose mother passed a way over a year ago( I didn't know him then) and I would like to know what is the correct way to interact with him, that will not make him feel upset, or uncomfortable in any way.

Well first off it would depends on your friends reaction. I think when someone has lost someone that they love, then it is always good for that person to talk about their loved one. But I also, think their is a time and a place for everything up under the sun. So I think their will be a right time for you to bring up your friends Mother and then maybe your friend can talk about her passing. This will make things better on your friendship as time goes on. I am sure that your friend, in time will show signs of feeling comfortable with you. Then maybe will make you feel like it is OK and maybe then, and only then, will it be fine to talk about the passing of your friends Mother. This will make your friend really close to you. This will show your friend that you are a true friend that cares enough to wait on the time when it will be the right time for your friend to speak to you about A Great Mother that has passed from this World. Your Friends Mother, Thank you and God Bless you for being such a good friend indeed! Everyone surly deserves a good friend like you!
