I'm 18 and just ending my freshman year of college. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and as much as I know it's going to be rough, I'm glad I got pregnant in college instead of high school. There is a huge age difference and maturity level after being on your own in college (even if only for one year) than there is when you're only in high school.

While I don't think it's a great idea to plan to get pregnant in high school or during college (unless you're absolutely sure your relationship is going to work, i.e. you're already married, and you know you have a good plan for your life), it does happen. And I think that both situations can fare great and be beneficial, but I would imagine the success rate of someone getting pregnant in college would be better than that of someone who got pregnant in high school.

Early college high schools are common in El Paso, so I'm quite familiar with them. In theory, you earn a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree at the same time, so the courses at an early college high school are taught by instructors who qualify to teach at a community college. The textbooks are the ones for the community college, not the high school texts. The assignments are college level assignments, and they get college level evaluation. Some students do very well in this environment, enjoy it very much, finish their Associate's Degree at the same time when they graduate high school, and are ready to enter a four-year college as "juniors" even though they have just finished high school. Some students do not finish the degree, but they get a high school diploma and have some college credits on their transcripts when they graduate. They, too, are in a good position when they decide to finish college. But there are a few students who find the pace too fast and the courses too challenging. They go back to a "regular" high school. Only you can decide if it is worth a try or not.

I'm in college right now and pregnant. I am also married and have been for 5 years this sept. I sat out 2 years while we moved and got settled in another state, but during that time I was able to travel around the country, and have my fun. I am very glad that I only have 5 classes left to get my degree though. Its hard for me, and I dont have to work. People do it all the time though, and without the supports I am lucky enough to have. But I would definatly say its easier to wait until after you finish school.

I had a baby at 18, six months after graduating high school. I married the father after graduation and he started college in the fall. I waited two years and started college, and now I am expecting my second child two months before I will graduate college.

I think the main difference is just being more mentally and emotionaly mature. I also agree with the people who are saying that the biggest factor in raising children is having a loving partner. I know I appriciate my husband.

Its harder to be pregnant in high school then in college. High school is a all day commitment while college hours and times vary. It is easier to fit in doctor appointments and childbirth classes, with a college schedule. If something should go wrong in the pregnancy, it is easier to work around that with a college schedule.
Its hard to be pregnant in college or high school.

i think that it is so outrageous to even think about getting pregnant during high school. there are like 6 girls at my hgih school that are pregnant, two of which are freshman. some of the girls dont talk to the dad, one of them thinks they are going to get married (NOT!), and the others are just having too much fun with their boyfriends. i think it is way better to wait until you have a steady job and you know what you want to do with yourself before you have kids. it is such a HUGE responsibility and i dont think anyone in high school and even college for that matter, is ready to have a baby!

Are you kidding? It's a huge difference.

Being pregnant in high school, almost always, you're still living with your parents and more often than not aren't working, therefore, you have no means to provide for the child. Also, if you end up dropping out, you have no high school diploma.

Being pregnant in college, you may well already have an apartment where you could raise the baby and most likely have a job of some sort. If you drop out, you at least have the high school diploma to fall back on.

Why would anyone want to be pregnant in high school or college? Don't you want to be your own person, try different things, travel, date, etc? Anyone who wants a baby that young is trying to fill a void of a family. Babies are a tremendous amount of work and require mothers and fathers who are committed to raising them as a priority.

lets try, 4 years more of life experience, plus the opportunity to have a better, higher paying job, and more emotional stability that comes with age. not to mention an easier time in the eyes of society which do ultimately effect your life as much as most of us hate it. im sure i could go on.
