i think my betta has fin rot. its tail started turning white and then it turned black and eventualy half of it fell of. now its body is turning white and its other fins too. is it fin rot? and how do i treat it? im pretty sure i keep the water clean but every time i put a conditioner in (only 2 times) right after it, there was a fin rot problem. i put it in last week and thats when this happened, i dont use conditioner other times because i use fresh water. what happened?

That does sound like fin rot to me too. Probably also with a healthy dose of fungus infection. If by water conditioner you mean something to remove chlorine, that should be used when you change water and use tap water. If you mean something else, what ever it is I wouldn't use it. Typically, those other products aren't needed to be honest. If you have your fish in a bowl, you need to completely replace the water (100% water change) every 2-3 days, in a filtered tank about 25% once a week, to be sure that the water stays clean.

Try the water changes as suggested and if it doesn't improve in a few days, or if it gets any worse, I would suggest you treat with an antibiotic like Maracyn or Maracyn TC for the fin rot.

if you use water from the tap, use a water conditioner to get all the chlorine out of it. you also may be putting too much conditioner in the water. that is a sure fire way for your fish to get ill. *only use the conditioner when you put in new water and use the guidlines on the back of the bottle.* the fin and tail rot... completely change the water and if you go to your local pet store, or Petsmart if you have one in your area, ask about the fin/tail rot medication. its a little pricey but ive heard it works well, but sometimes a fresh tank of water helps a lot.

and it kinda depends on where youre keeping it. Some bettas will do fine in a bowl on the table. i have found that they are better off in a small tank(maybe 2 1/2 gal.) with a small filter running. mine did great in there and i kept one for almost 2 years.
