If I were to take Adderall in dental school to stay ahead of the competition, but couldn't get my own prescription and decided to buy or borrow instead; would that really be enforced if someone found out I was using them? Is it fairly safe to say there would be no harm done if ever I was caught with a drug that wasn't prescribed for me? I mean tons of college kids do this, but I know professional school has different standards when you are working with patients etc. Thanks

Prescription medication is a "controlled substance", meaning that the distribution is controlled by law. Cocaine, heroine, methamphetamines, and other illegal drugs are also defined as "controlled substances". The only difference is that prescription meds are allowed to be dispensed by a medical doctor to an individual. Other illegal drugs are not permitted at all. Having possesion of a prescription medication without a prescription is the same as having possession of cocaine or any other controlled substance. People are charged with it very often. Mostly Lortab, Oxycontin, and other pain killers or mood enhancers.

Yeah, you get arrested. If you're under 18, you may get a ticket to juvenille school. In case you didn't know it, DRUGS (including the depressant drug alcohol) ARE POISON. Yeah, maybe "tons" of college kids do this, but maybe "tons" of college kids aren't too bright either.

By the way, how do all the people in dental school that DON'T use drugs manage to stay "ahead of the competition?" See my point? If dental school is too tough for you personally (so tough that you need artificial stimulation - meaning drugs - to get through it), perhaps you should choose a different career goal.

What if you get addicted to the stimulating action of the drug? Rehab? What about the long-term consequences of putting poisonous substances into your body (i.e., cancer, etc.)? Are you for real? If you think you have competition now, wait until you've done very well in school and then find your all the dream jobs (the jobs you've dreamed of) taken by a people with slightly prettier resumes or slightly more expensive cuff links. Life is not fair much of the time, so you might as well figure that out now rather than later.

Lady are you nuts? It is a felony. I hope you don't make it through dental school because you evidently have an addictive personality. I read your other questions first Nyquil to sleep and Adderall to keep you up. You need help. What happens when you have the ability to write scripts ? Are you just gonna write a few for yourself or family members? In addition, I guarantee that if you get the Adderall some one will rat you out and you will be thrown out of school and good luck getting any job, except maybe low level positions, like maybe McDonald's. Get help.

Each time you take xanax, it causes changes to your brain chemistry. It takes time for the brain to recover from this. If you take xanax faster than your brain can recover, you develop tolerance and dependency. The next thing you know you are "addicted". This can happen real fast, and before you know what is happening. Once you reach this point, you will go through hell getting off of the pills. Xanax withdrawal and recovery takes a very very long time - a year or more to fully recover is not unusual. This is why we keep harping on and on about not taking xanax. Prescription medications are not candy, they are very potent, very addictive, and can be dangerous. You are playing with fire, and if you are not careful you will get burned - badly.

My friend was kicked out of college for using Adderall not perscribed for her...she thought the exact same thing as you...but if you want to stay in dental school I recommend you get off it because it can be adictive and it doesn't matter how well you do if you're kicked out.

You would get in BIG trouble if the school found out. A doctor (or dentist) who is found using drugs unprescribed is most definitely NOT the kind of doctor i'd want to be seeing. Especially if u NEED them to get ahead of the competition.

Please do keep in mind that taking a prescription that was not prescribed to you could result in a fatal complication.

Physicians prescribe medications based on the particular patients body weight and a number of other factors, such as allergic reactions, etc.

Whether you could go to jail or not for it, is far less of a concern than that of the continuation of your very life.

So, in other words, please be careful.

Yes!! My son's friend handed him an adderall at school. He is now going to court Monday after spending a week in detention. Even though she was caught with the bottle and he gave it right back to her.

as far as i know, you can be arrested for it. Any medicine not prescribed for you is considered illegal. Trust me, you wont do better, and if your school found out, which they always do, you will be kicked out. No dentist would ever hire a person with a record of substance abuse. just think, you might get pulled over for a taillight being out, the cop finds your pills, gives you a ticket and bye bye career.
