No you don't want to use any solvents. Petroleum solvents slowly break the asphalt down.
Use something like simple green or even dish soap with a stiff brush. They also market cleaners just for this. You can find them at a hardware store near the driveway sealers.

depending on how old the stain is, I would try putting layer of bark or kitty litter over the stain, this will pull up alot of the oil. Then you can hit it with dishsoap and a pressure washer or an metal brush. Mineral spirits make me a little uneasy when mixed with asphalt, but I have no substantiation for this.

I hope you dont live in a city where the gutters run into the sewer system. Most of that water is returned into local streams, creeks, etc. and Mineral spirits could be incredibly harmful to the local wildlife. There are many degreasers that are safe and theres always liquid dish soap, a scrub brush, and a little elbow grease.

I would leave the mineral spirits alone, mineral oil might help dilute the oil without damage to the asphalt. I would use Dawn soap and water and flush well.

I'd avoid mineral spirits. It can be destructive to the asphalt. Brushing in kitty litter, and removing it afterwards, followed by dish detergent and warm water should do the job.

Cat litter will work, just keep working it in with your foot and then sweep it up. You can also try Simple Green, never tried mineral spirits.
