well, I generally dont need to sit... except for getting caught short with number two's...
But the thing is, after 30-something years, I have remained disease free so I dont want to take unnecessary risks now.
The other thing is, you might not be ill from diseases but could be a carrier, transmitting bacteria and sickness from toilet seat to toilet seat without a care in the world.
Oh, and when I do need to use the facilities, I put heaps of paper down first to stop the splashing effect, and heaps more on the seat for a decent mechanical barrier.
Good luck.

No no no no no. But it's just cos I've studied microbiology and as a result I'm a little paranoid about bacteria and viruses and other little germy's. I do agree that it is safe to do so...within reason! Apparently toilet seats are relatively clean, compared to door handles and things like that. So yes, you can sit on the toilet, just make sure that you don't touch the tap, and door handle. Ewwwww. You don't even wanna know what's lurking on stuff like that !!!

The right of self-defence exists, in reason as in law. The thieves struck the first blows. Even before then, they did the first wrong. These facts are not in dispute. It strains credulity that the police, the CPS and finally the court should have come out so strongly on the side of the criminals. There is in theory a contract between the citizen and the forces of law. We forgo much of our right of self-defence: we may not bear arms, we may not assault and detain wrongdoers whereve we may find them, we may not inflict punishment. The residual right - to take necessary action to protect our property or our person where the police are not present or cannot help is now under threat. If we cannot trust the Law, inevitably people will turn to their own strength and to ad hoc associations for self-protection. Is vigilantism really what this government wants?

I sat on a public toilet recently for the first time in years. I don't like it at all, and I only use the cleanest toilets in classy places.

Always have, always will. We have become way too obsessed with antibacterial this and that. You need to build some resistance to germs! I have not read anything about major outbreaks occurring from toilets. Practice good hygiene like hand washing and you will be fine.

If the toilet is nasty, I'll line it with TP, then sit. Otherwise, I just sit. Life's too short to worry about hovering over a toilet.

No. I have a remarkable bladder and can usually wait. On the couple rare occasions I have had to use one. I put toilet paper over the seat.

Nope! D.M.C - Means: Don't Make Contact. My muscles in my legs are strong purely from all the years of squatting! I beg to differ on the 'safe' factor... Eww..
