I mean seriously, it used to be so popular, now it is considered the lowest point now, next to emos and goths, in society. People always seem to burn on it, but is it really that bad? I mean its ok if you hate it, but you don't have to songle people out because they listen to it. I mean the steortypes are always its talentless, or its satanic
1) Talent- I want to see some punk guitarist who can only power chords on the same set of strings, play the some metal, you need precision, speed, accuracy, its not that easy
2) Satan- this is total bull, the only satanic ones are black metal, and they r kind of messed up (no offense to black metal fans, but ur music sux ;)
So basically, I'm just tired of people always saying metal is responsible for our violence in schools, or that other crap. I mean look at rap, it is auctually worse. It can inspire people to kill, and can make white boys look retarded. I m just saying, why would people hate so much on meta

Why indeed.

A couple of reasons :
Associated with violence / violent behaviour. (of course, these people conveniently forget that rap/hiphop etc. calls for more violence than metal)

Branded 'evil' by religious fanatics. Problem is, any fanatic loses his 'social common sense' - so i don`t understand why people take them serious at all.

Commercialism. Sadly, in metal too, commerce has gained power, oppressing creative talent in order to mass produce mass market processed noise.

Time. Every sort of music has peaks and valleys in popularity. Eventually you`ll get a peak again, when people realize the commercial trap that the music has fallen in, and will look for genuine music again. Be patient.

As to responsible for violence ? No way - PEOPLE are responsible. They make the choices, but are too coward to stand up for what they have done, so they blame something or someone else.

And yes, i like hardrock and metal too ;)

Maybe metal is unpopular because it's no longer a trend.

I mean really now, anyone that has been alive for any amount of time over 8 years can tell you that things come into and out of style... Only actual music lovers will pick a genre and stick with it despite trends.

I am completely repulsed by the fact that you just insulted punk rock. Maybe you should listen to some punk rock and broaden your horizons. :gasp: Maybe you could learn something from the music you listen to?

Another thing is that metal is pretty fricking boring. You can listen to metalcore or any of the varieties of hardcore and get your heavy beats and a little something called good lyrics.... And it's danceable, which metal, generally, is not.

And as a side note all you people talking about how hip hop has taken over, we let that happen when we allowed Wham to take over the airwaves back in the 80s... >_<;

Metal, like Pop, Rock, and Country, has hit a sag. Every song lately sounds like every other song. There has been real lack in creatvity. No one has really added anything new to the genre.
Avenged Sevenfold is close, but some classify them as Alternative.

I'm a country music fan and have noticed the same thing in my music.
My brother is into Metal. He and I hold discussions about how today's music is becoming too commercial and too controlled.
Where's the creativity?

That's a load of bull. Around where I live I haven't seen Metal hit EMO low! Personally, I love Metal music, and it feels like the satanic generalization about it is fading. And talent - try listing to Mastodon, Iron Maiden, Metallica. Music takes talent, it applies t metal too.

I have a feeling I am a lot older than you, but metal was on its way into grunge when I was into all that...I still think that it's a great genre of music...and I can't believe people buy the stuff that no-talents put out (like Timberlake, Spears and most rap out there)...I think it's because a lot of these 'artists' are selling sex and bling, and that's what people want.

I am so waiting for hip hop and all that other crap to fade out...

Well, your whole thing on punk rock and goth rock and emo rock kind of hurt, seeing as I'm a hardcore kid. But, in reality, true punk isn't appreciated either. I'm not a fan of what is known as like heavy metal, but I respect it. That's what came before Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails and that's what influenced these bands. People are too absorbed into MTV and those stupid rap songs that they don't get it. But, be happy that metal isn't MTV popularized. I mean, I like Industrial metal and death metal and alot of darker stuff, but maybe people got sick of the whole sex, drugs and rock and roll thing. I mean, punk is what it is because of the lyrics and I guess anything with true emotion isn't payed attention to anymore. Plain and simple: People are stupid.

I know, after Columbine a lot of people blamed some Rammstein music and claimed that it encouraged the violence... If you cause violence, that's your personal decision, and it's not a band's fault. Rap and hip hop encourage having sex with everyone and doing drugs and cheating on the people you love, but people don't blame Eminem when some crazy child molester gets caught.

And a lot of the preppy girls at my school are always making fun of metal, even though they like rap and hip hop, which I personally hate. It just seems like most people have gone off to listening to rap and pop stuff instead of listening to real music...

rednecks are a dying breed. they either kill themselves hunting or racing cars or getting their mullet caught in a machine of some kind. not enough rednecks left to be fans of metal.
white boys that listen to rap don't look nearly as retarded as a 13 year old with a mullet and a ride the lightning t shirt.

punk rock isn't about the talent level. it's actually showing you don't have be great to be great. it's about the message of the music. if there was a heavy metal singer that wrote lyrics like bad religion's greg graffin or black flag's henry rollins or dead kennedy's jello biafra, heavy metal music would have something to offer.

I still like metal. Bands like Pantera and Sepultura will never go out of fashion in my book.

Music isn't the problem. Poverty and bad parents is the problem.
