Do I need to take the rocks out of the tank or can I keep them in?

In my opinion it's best to have a bare tank except for a sponge filter as any rocks or gravel are places for fry and babies to get trapped and for waste to accumulate.

As long as the rock dun have sharp edges (as when the male get aggressive and chase the female, they may dash and get injured), I dun see why you must take the rock out just for breeding purposes.

In fact a good 'rock' and plants are good for the female to hide from the male when the pairing is not perfect.

Good Luck! Cheers!
