Actually if anything, it is believed that the number is underestimated since people were first buried in mass graves and then later cremated. There is no way to have an accurate accounting. Well....the reality is that you do not think, learn, research or examone much of anything in this event. I have spoken with people with the tatoos on their arms and heard their stories. The books from credible sources are available for your reading as well, let me suggest "The history of the allies and Auschwitz".

Your problem is related to ignorance. You must understand that millions of people died in the hands of the Nazi. They deveoted millions of manhours to plan and act upon a systematic extermination of large numbers of human beings, based upon simply not liking their beliefs or habits.

As an American you should not allow yourself to minimize this deed.

You think the number was distorted? Because of the bodies burned and buried in mass graves? That does make it hard to count.
Countries have ways of knowing about how many people they once had, ie "census" "taxes" "schools" "jobs" all those things people do and then when they are murdered, they don't do them anymore.

The numbers are underreported, if anything. There are countless tens of thousands of people who were reported missing in those times and perished while trying to escape. They are unaccounted for because their deaths were not recorded.

I personally know several people who survived the camps and lost their entire families in the camps. I met several of them as I was growing up, and talking to actual survivors would open your eyes, let me tell you. I can still remember having a couple of survivors roll up their shirt sleeves and show me the numbers tattooed on their arms. It gave me a physical pain in my stomach, to think about human beings committing such horror on each other.

I also know several families who had to flee for their lives and give up their homes and families in order to survive.

My Dad fought in World War II and could barely repeat some of the horrors that he saw, when he was with the troops helping to liberate the camps.

You need to educate yourself much more on this topic, it is thinking like yours that attributed to the horrors of that time in history in the first place.

Ignorance is not bliss, it is only ignorance which is closely related to closing ones eyes to the world.

You would like to think that they are exaggareted, because I don't think anybody wants to think about how horrible that is, but unfortunately it's probably true. You should always double check your sources though, and I'm not sure the number you have. Around 6 million I think.
